Review for Postman Pat- Special Delivery Service: A Speedy Delivery

    7 / 10

You know I received this DVD and decided that I was far too old to give a justified assessment of it. I mean sure I could talk about how it's all been changed and they seem to have funked up the theme song, but what good would that do? The fact is, this DVD is not for me and I shouldn't think about it in that way. What I needed was young eyes and therefore my nephew was brought in as a sort of guest reviewer.
His opinion? He loved this show. With only four episodes, it only kept him occupied for an hour but that was enough to have him hooked. If I had had more to show him, he would have happily sat and watched and thankfully with this set he gets a bonus disk and so he could. The show follows the adventures of Pat and his ever faithful black and white cat Jess, in his new role as Head of Special Delivery Service. What does this mean? Does it mean he's venturing outside the little village? Not really. Despite now having a helicopter at his disposal, his journeys still seem to be in the same radius as ever, it just means he has new almost James Bond-like vehicles to get there in.
The four episodes follow the same premise that everyone will be familiar with, namely Pat needs to deliver a package and usually something goes wrong. Unlike the real post office, who will probably just lose it, or get it to you battered and usually opened too, Pat makes it his duty to get it there by any means necessary. The animation is the same as ever, though I do suspect a bit of CGI trickery to make it a lot slicker than I remember, but the use of stop motion in a world where everything has been updated to computer animation is so refreshing that I think I enjoyed it even more than my nephew.
As this is for kids, the stories are fairly simple and only last less than fifteen minutes. But that does mean that you can ration them out as end of the night or before school treats which is nice and with no violence, crude jokes, wacky explosions or anything else that could be construed as negative it is just a nice show for the kids no matter what age they are.
Postman Pat is a very special delivery and one that kids will enjoy finding on their mat in the morning.
