    Jimmy Carr-Telling Jokes

    8 / 10

I have always enjoyed Jimmy Carr. Some people describe him as 'an acquired taste' or 'hit and miss', but I always found him on target for much of the time. The thing about his humour, is that you get what you expected. You won't be getting any long childhood stories like Billy Connolly or whimsical songs like Victoria Wood. You know it will be filthy, edgy and a lot of the time as dark as the inside of a coal mine.

Telling Jokes is similar to his other shows with Carr mixing his scattergun stand-up with many visual jokes similar to the Dave Gorman shows. This time I have to admit his jokes weren't as on target as I had witnessed in the past and his subjects which include the Josef Fritzl story were just a bit too black. Saying that, as I say, there's nothing you won't expect from Carr with many jokes about paedophilia, wife beating, rape and abuse that you sometimes go 'man I can't believe I am laughing at this'. Rest assured, these are not the type of jokes you can repeat in work the next day. Not if you want to keep yourself from being on the end of a disciplinary of some kind. His standup this time is a little hit and miss, but when he hits the target he smashes it out of the park 'Some women punish us by giving us the silent treatment. I call it some peace and quiet.' He also reveals to us the most offensive joke ever.

The three extras are a wonderful added bonus with ten minutes of bonus footage which are just highlighted by a makeup woman appearing to touch Carr up. His Comedy Central special was a great addition and proves that his comedy does work in the US, though he had already presented Distraction over there so that wasn't in dispute. The most interesting extra, is Carr's Twitter diary which is in the form of a slideshow and has some wonderful little ideas throughout.

Telling Jokes is an enjoyable DVD, but it's not one you will watch over and over again. The extras mean you do have more to watch and those of you who are Jimmy Carr fans will enjoy his observations and the jokes. Carr is very good at pushing the envelope of humour, I shudder to think what the next show will be like!
