Zombie Strippers

Introduction

In 2012 and in his fourth term in office, President Bush has declared war on so many countries that the army is overstretched and, in desperation, research into re-animating the dead to create super-soldiers is underway.

At a research lab in Sartre, Nebraska, Z Squad has been called in to clean up the mess and kill all the zombies, but one member, Byrdflough, is bitten and escapes to a nearby strip club. There, he bites the star attraction, Kat (Jenna Jameson), who then begins to infect the other strippers and customers.

Video

It looks fantastic, with a glorious picture, which has deep contrast and vibrant colours. Whilst not skimping on the nudity or gore, which look great, the visual effects are terrific, but the CGI is less impressive.

Audio

The Dolby TrueHD soundtrack is very impressive - there are English or French versions available - with crisp dialogue and decent surround sound.

Extra Features

The commentary, with writer/director Jay Lee and cast members Jenna Jameson, Robert Englund and Joey Medina is a lively and revealing affair, with a fair amount of back slapping, with surprisingly interesting comments from all involved - I never thought Jenna Jameson would be so articulate.

There is a trivia track which point out the philosophical elements and gives plenty of background info on the cast - especially Jameson and Englund.

There are 40 minutes of deleted scenes, with optional commentary by Jay Lee and Robert Englund.

The Champagne Room: Behind The Scenes of Zombie Strippers - A decent, though not spectacular, making of comprising B-roll footage and interviews.

The Dressing Room: How to Glam a Zombie - this looks at the prosthetics and special effects make-up that goes into transforming people, including the World's most famous adult movie star, into zombies.

There is also BD Live content and trailers for Felon, Starship Troopers 3: Marauder and Prom Night plus the Blu-ray Disc™ Is High Definition showreel.

Conclusion

By coincidence rather than design, two zombie stripper movies have been released in the past fortnight and they've both been great fun. Zombies, Zombies, Zombies was a cheap and cheerful romp that didn't quite deliver on the gore or nudity front, whereas Zombie Strippers does.

Boasting Jenna Jameson guarantees nudity - some full-frontal - and there's plenty of it. The gore is well done, with plenty of 'gut-munching' and a particularly uncomfortable scene where a stripper gets hungry during a lap-dance. Robert Englund plays the sleazy germophobic club owner with relish, hamming it up brilliantly.

There are plenty of allusions to philosophy, contemporary politics and Eugène Ionesco's play Rhinoceros (which it parodies), which are there if you want them to make it a deeper and more intelligent film. If you just want a silly, riotous and trashy zombie movie, and appreciate the female form, then this would be perfect for a lads' night in. Of the two Zombie stripper movies, I prefer this, though the other is not without its merits.
