taxi is a good fast film if you wolud like to race a kited up peugot 405 around the street then you will like the file
I bought this film because it was on offer, and because I had heard from someone, somewhere that it was a pretty good film. I couldn’t quite remember who that person was, and thinking about it now, I’m not entirely sure that they said it was a particularly good film – merely that they had seen it. Anyway – whoever it was that I had a 15 second conversation about this film – thank you.
Because, this film is pretty damned good. I wouldn’t say it was fantastic, but I watched it without knowing anything about it and with relatively little expectations of it. Basically I was very pleasantly surprised. But then it was written by Luc Besson.
The film has been given a great transfer, and the audio (DD 2.0) is pretty good too. Although I am happy with just having English subtitles, others may not be as forgiving that there is no English dubbed option. Unfortunately, the disc offers little in the way of extras – a trailer and filmographies and that’s about it. While I suppose it’s better than nothing, it is still very disappointing.
Extras:
Biographies- Quite good titbits of information about the cast.
Trailer- OK, just your average trailer.
Overview:
Danny is an ex pizza delivery boy who finally gets his taxi license, but when giving a 'customer' a lift he must drive for his enemy, the french police in order to keep his driving license.
Review:
A pleasently surprisingly film which certainly has its moments. The film focuses on one lad, Danny and his 'quest' to become the fastest taxi driver in France. When he gives a policeman a lift at 100+mph through the streets of France he must become his driver to keep his license. It's the car chases and car driving scenes that are the real star of this film and the scooter tricks (like the somersault) can be hilariously funny. My personal favourite scene is where Danny drives a guy to the airport and is so fast he knocks the police radar over with his speed. The plot in which Danny and the copper must help find the Mercedes Gang is rather good and makesway for some interesting character build up. I enjoyed this film and I think anyone with a good film sense will like it too.
Picture:
Presented in non anamorphic 1.78:1 widescreen the print is quite good with a nice clear picture.
Sound:
A 2.0 dolby digital track is what lets this film down (along with the small extras). This could've had a fantastic 5.1 track.
Overall:
A great film let down by poor extras and the escape of a 5.1 soundtrack. However, it is a very cheap title to buy. Go get it I say.
Great fun!! I didnt hear too much about this movie and only bought it because it was going cheap. It was a surprise to me how great this movie was. Produced by Luc Besson, this has to be one of the finest French movies ever made. Sure it doesnt have much critical acclaim but it is Pure Entertainment. Packed full of comedy and action, this is quickly becoming a cult movie and has already spawned a sequel, with a third movie also in the making.
I cant believe I hadnt reviewed this dvd earlier because it is a gem. The plot focuses on Daniel, a speed maniac in a peugeot taxi in marsailles who is forced to help a cop catch a fast gang of bank robbers. L'operation Cobra!!!
The picture is vibrant and brilliant. Maybe a few signs of grain but otherwise it is surprisingly brilliant for a french movie. The sound although its only a DD 2.0 still kicks ass. A DD 5.1 would have been more suited but this 2.0 is still clear and sounds great.
Not much with extras, a trailer and some filmographies. This was a disapointment as I believe the German and French releases had more extras.
Overall its a great movie. Its £4.49 at http://www.play.com so theres no excuses, go and buy this movie NOW!
