Now, twenty years later, aliens under attack have mistaken the Galaxy Quest television transmissions for "historical documents" and beamed up the crew of has-been actors to save the universe. As you may or may not know this film takes the mickey out of Star Trek. With the cinema release just out in the u.k. and hearing good things about this film I ordered this dvd straight away and I wasn't disappointed. The film is very funny with all the Star Trek gags. The video is really crisp and the sound is good too. I've heard that the DTS version is even better sound! The presentation is excellent with animated menus, 7 deleted scenes, "on location in space" featurette, trailer, interviews with cast and crew, the Thermian language audio track which is funny for a few minutes and the Omega 13 feature which can only be view when seen the film. All I can say is get this film if your sci-fi fan and laugh at yourselves at some people who take sci-fi too seriously like in the film! I'll leave you with the words from Commander Taggart "Never give up Never surrender!"
This movie really cracked me up. It is really awesome.
The movie is some sort of a parody about sci-fi movies, but it deals with the subject from a refreshingly new direction.
The acting is hilariously good and all the cast are doing a good job.
The video transfer is great. The picture is always clear and no compression marks are evident. The special effects are really nice. Some are ludicrous (intentionally) and some are really impressive.
The DD 5.1 soundtrack is really impressive. Other than the fact that it will make your house shake, it'll enable you to hear the nuances of the speech, which is really good.
The menus are VERY nice - animated and with cool sounds.
The extras include a nice behind the scenes featurette, some deleted scenes, the usual filmographies and a hilarious Thermian soundtrack (DO listen to parts of it at least once).
Bottom line - an awesome comedy, not only for sci-fi fans.
Saw this ages back in the cinema and remembered really enjoying it then - only now is it really showing me what it's worth! Not got a friend who's seen it yet who hasn't asked to watch at least some of it again next time they're around! Almost 'nuff said.
A sci-fi spoof, and a damn fine sci-fi movie rolled into one it takes the mick out of the genre in a new and refreshing way, skipping the overused cliches for better gags and some real belly laughs. The effects are uniformly superb, and better than those in any of the Star Trek films so far, and with the DTS soundtrack... WOOF. A great demo of the available dynamic range.
Fairly mediocre extras perhaps, such is. Can't say I minded much! Commentary woudl have been nice, but I guess we're all getting a tad bored of hearing about more bluescreen and rear-projection!
