Samsung N130 netbook and the screen does not work. That's to say completely blank no activity at all. Tried plugging in an external monitor and the same no activity at all.
When switched on the display lights seem to indicate it's booting up though.
Any suggestions?
Apart from junk it.

Does it POST? As in, can you see a bios screen?

Does the screen have a working backlight?

Also there should be a shortcut key (usually a blue function key and one of F1-F8) which should toggle between internal and external displays that might be worth trying.

One final laptop trick, take it off the power, remove the battery, wait a few minutes, put the battery back in.

No Bios. No anything.

Backlight?

Shortcut key does nothing with external monitor attached.

Tried battery off and back still nothing.

I think I may have arrived at the take the cover off of it and stare at it hopefully stage.

With the battery out, hold the power button to discharge any static that may be in the laptop. This fixed an old Dell lappy of mine that sat in the same condition as yours for 6 months.

"Backlight?"

Is the LCD display showing an image but you can't see it because the backlight which shines through the crystals has died?

So it could be that the laptop is working fine apart from the LCD backlight? You might be able to shine a torch on it and see if the pixels are lighting up at all.

Just tried that and I've not seen anything looking deader or blacker so I don't think it's the screen.
As there's no life when I tried the external monitor it seems the problem's elsewhere.

I get the power light and HDD light when I switch it on so I'm guessing I might be able to see a loose connector if I take the cover off so I'll try that later when I've got time.

I'm not sure how easy it would be to do on the Samsung but you could try resetting the CMOS by removing it for 10 minutes then popping it back in.

You could also rule out a RAM problem if you happen to have 2 modules inside, try booting with one then the other.
