Search engines in Firefox

Snaps (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 8th May 2014, 22:47

I have Google set as my choice of search engine in Firefox but for a couple of weeks now Bing has been turning up unannounced until tonight it installed itself as my home page.

I've just removed it from my list of available choices but found 'Conduit search' installed which is still bloody Bing. So I've just removed that as well.

Just me or anyone else had the same?

Not had that here! Sounds like you have something playing with your settings, tried a Malware Bytes scan recently?

Looks like Bing is installed as default by Firefox as a search engine. Although you can hide it, you can't uninstall it.

However, your problem does look like a browser hijack on top of that.

Remove Bing Search

How do I make new tabs open up with Google search engine instead of Bing's search.conduit.com

Tried everything! Cannot get rid of lab.search.conduit.com/HP/SH... search engine after Google startup when new tab is opened.

Removing by using 'manage search engine' and it's still removed after a reboot.
Open a new blank window though and it reappears.

Hadn't realised how long it had been since I ran Malaware but I've updated and run that. I'm not going to say how many threats it picked upĀ  but a lot.

On a slightly different subject which I can't find my original thread of. I've practically had to give up listening to the Beebs iplayer radio as there is so much drop out. Seems to be worse at certain times of the day though, lunch and early PM.

conduit has found itself on my pc, bing is now default search in firefox and chrome :( I'm thinking Avast is responsable, as it said it wanted to do an upgrade yesterday, and I haven't installed anything else :(

normally the "do you want to make Ask" or whatver your default search is fairly obvious, I guess not now. what's annoying is this probably means that I'll have to mess around with the settings on chrome on my various PCs, at home and work, damn convenience of sharing bookmarks etc :(
