Anyone got an old 5.25" drive they don't want?

RJS (undefined) posted this on Friday, 2nd May 2014, 17:19

This is probably a long shot, but maybe somebody somewhere has an old 5.25" floppy drive in their loft that they don't want anymore.

I've just ordered a Kryoflux and have some old BBC Micro floppies I'd like to preserve before they are completely unreadable!

Here in lies part of the problem, not all drives are suitable, so £25+ for something that might not work is a bit of a risk. :/ I could end up buying a few before I get one that works.

Oh wait, that Teac is listed as compatible, or at least a Teac FD-55GFR is, and thats a FD-55FR, wonder what the difference of the G is. Hopefully it's just colour.

Thanks Rass!

My pleasure, I don't recall what was used in the PC1512 but at 99p currently for the whole unit with two drives seems a reasonable risk (especially if the seller just strips out the drives for you).

Got the Teac for £12, though the £10 shipping is a touch pricey.

Thanks again Rass!

Fingers crossed it's compatible for you (last time I had anything to do with a 5.25" drive was about the early 90's.
