Interesting and very long article that I only skimmed through because I don't actually like BASIC, I hate it and curse all the awful shareware apps that Microsoft let loose on the world thanks to VisualBasic, and pretty much a lot of really awful programmers that it created.

You know the paper cards that you punched in on each line of BASIC, built them into a 300 card stack, wrap a red elastic band round them, and waited days till they were fed through the works or university central computer.

I used mess with other peoples programs and take a few cards out or shuffle them about, and all they got back was four hundred joined paper sheets of garbage output. @&^%*^

No wonder we lost so many Amazon rain forests back then

In computer studies, on the Nimbus machines we had there with a networked printer server, we would load up the big test database called Horses and set it up ready to print when someone hit enter.

When they did, which someone usually did, it would tie up the dot matrix printer for the rest of the day, as no teachers seemed to know how to stop it.

This is what happens when teachers know less about IT than their pupils.
