I`m part of the pilot group testing the mext-generation hub, but we still haven`t received them. Can`t say anything more at the moment because Virgin has asked us not to, but I have seen the on-paper specs.

I would love to hear the results after the pilot testing is completed. I hope that the wi-fi problem is sorted.

i forgot to mention the low tech quick fix i use on mine lol...

i put a book with a shiny metal binding behind it angled into the rest of the house,  sounds daft, but the difference is that upstairs i get 3-4 connection bars instead of 1..

Seems the new SH2 is supposedly much better than the SH1 for wireless Chris.  How did you find it?

It's not that much better in my environment TBH; wireless speeds and connectivity aren't any better or worse than they were when I performed testing with the old SH. It's not as good as the TP-Link router I had in there before the pilot either. The dual-band functionality isn't as much of a selling point as I'd hoped, because so few devices support 5GHz.

Biggest problem I have with it are the unexpected reboots (and it takes an age to reboot - much longer than the first SH) and the momentary drop-outs. I guess it's still early firmware though, so these areas may improve.

My overall impression after using it for a while is that it's the same *bleep*, different day. It's pretty much the same device: the UI hasn't changed, there are no additional features over the old SH (the USB port isn't enabled). The real problem is Virgin's network though. Seeing much more jitter now than I used to and I've lost my IP address twice this month (whereas before I went for over a year without it changing, and then only cause it turned it off for over a day). Wouldn't normally worry, but I use a free proxy service that requires my IP to be whitelisted and it only has a limited number of slots - took me a week to get back on the list.

Long and short, I wouldn't suggest anyone pay for an upgrade to the new SH. If you get one for free as part of an upgrade or as a replacement for faulty kit go for it, but it simply doesn't offer enough new features over the old device to spend money on it.
