Page 1 of hard drive partition problem

Hi, i have a 30gb hard drive in my laptop, it`s partitioned in 2 and the c drive is almost completely full, what i`d like to know is how do i use the spare space? (d drive)

Not quite sure what you mean. If you have a D partition you simply copy data to it in the same way as to the C partition. The same goes for installing programs (you just have to remember to do a custom install). There`s no special trick involved.

I have no technical knowledge in this area, so what i`m saying is probobly really obvious, but bear with me.
The problem i have is that i tried to copy some pictures to my computer today, but it kept failing half way through because i didn`t have enough disk space left. The only drive that`s full is the c drive though, so how would i add things like photos to the d drive? Or would it be better to add more space to the c drive? What exactly is the point of the partition anyway?

Imagine you have created a new folder or plugged in a usb drive. You want to save a file or photograph to that folder or drive. So rather than clicking Save and saving in My Documents, in the file save box you would choose to save it in the new folder or usb drive.

Using your D drive is just like that, you can choose to save things to it right away as above. Or you can transfer your music and video files (for example) there so you have more space available on your C drive for programs, documents and photos (or however you want to arrange your files).

Double-click on My Computer and you should see icons for both C and D. Double-click on D. You can keep this window open; then open the folders you keep your music in and just drag the folders and files onto the D drive.

Also, have you done any housekeeping on your PC? By that I mean have you emptied your "Recycling Bin". That could have lots of file sin so still uses up space.

double l click on it to open it, and then delete any files you know for certain you don`t want.

also have a look at your temporary files folder, that may have lots of rubbish in it.

it will be something like

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp

where owner is your login name.

and/or

C:\WINDOWS\Temp
