Strange how you hear so much of artists against distribution methods eating into their profits, but never the record company who afaik still take an insane cut.

they were talking about this on the "news" on the radio the other day. A cynical person might suggest it's to do with her new album coming out so she/record label wants the income/wants some free publicity ;) Their were also rumours that a deal is being done with another, perhaps a new music streaming site for exclusivity.

I must admit, I probably don't buy as many CDs as I used to partially due to the fact we can listen to Spotify at work, but there's a lot of artists getting some money out of me, admittedly a tiny amount, but I listen to stuff I wouldn't have bought anyway.

it does mean though that a lot of music doesn't get a second chance. since it's now so easy to listen to so much music, I don't listen to an album non stock for a week, before it enters regular rotation like when I was at college. now it's new thing after new thing, or occasionally I remember a song/band I haven't listen to in years, and go through their entire back catalogue :)
