Pure Flat Widescreen Advice PLEASE!

Top Gunner (Competent) posted this on Thursday, 28th March 2002, 12:20

I`m looking into buying a new Pure Flat Nicam Widescreen TV.

My 1st choice at the moment is the JVC AV-32WFT1. I`ve seen it on various sites for about £700.

Can anyone offer any advice on this or other sets???

Cheers.........

Philips 32PW6515 for £650 inc stand and Delivery from www.hispek.co.uk
Selling at Comet et al for around £950

I ordered mine on Monday and it arrived on Wednesday. However, I currently have some concerns with my set. Need to do some further testing before I decide to keep it or not.

Also over on the AV forums there have been mixed comments in the past. Basically if you get a good un then its supposed to be a cracking telly. However, there was a dodgy batch recently.

I have had a look at the Phillips on the web, but have read mixed reviews need to check it out in a shop.

The JVC model seems to get consistent reviews so may pay the extra.

Anyone else have any views???

Home-Entertainment magazine stated that the JVC AV-32WFT1 is the best nicam tv around, a few months back. Wanted one myself, but settled for a philips 6006 due to price, (which I`m well chuffed with).

If price is no problem go for the JVC, seems a good buy.

Does anyone have the toshiba 36zp18p? It costs around £1500 and has had good reviews and good surround sound capabilities (comes with extras speakers). I`m wondering whether my set has a problem though.

The picture is ok with the contrast low but it`s weird unless the contrast is down to less than half way. This is even with component output from a DVD.

My parents have a toshiba 28no3 which is a 4:3 with widescreen mode (it has similar menu settings as the 36zp18p) and although the screen is obviously smaller, the picture is great at high contrast levels, especially with a dvd player. The picture is more vibrant with that cheap telly (£250).

Also with the 36zp18p, I`ve noticed that in normal analogue broadcasts (not connected to digital) there are dark bands down the screen at the same point on every channel (much more noticable when the signal is bad). It isn`t the tuner though because it`s exactly the same with my VCR tuner using SCART only.

Mark,

So where is the JVC selling for £700?

I am hopefully returning my Philips and getting a refund.

Cheers.

I got the 28WFT1 a couple of weeks ago from empire direct, paid £449 for it, can`t fault it. Think JVC are pushing out a new model soon, as I saw it in Dixons the other day for 500 notes with a big `end of line` sticker on it, don`t know whether this goes for the 32 as well.
