Does anyone have a fixed projector screen?

deano59 (Competent) posted this on Sunday, 13th July 2014, 17:51

Hi - my room is 18 foot long and 13 foot 3 wide - I can't decide between a 100" or 120" inch screen.  Does anyone have ant opinions on this?

Work out the width of the screen, make sure you have enough room on either side for your speakers, then make sure your projector will fill the screen, then get the biggest one that satisfies all those conditions!

I project direct on to my white wall which acts as the screen.  Downside: always have to make sure no one marks that wall.

Distance to screening wall from projector at shoulder height is 12 feet, and projects roughly a 10 foot by 6 foot screen.

Still on the same bulb after 10 years. If it ever blows, then the projector goes, as its well out of date now.

Mind you I only use the projector for new DVD's bought, so that maximum of 2 or 3 a month. This keeps the bulb operating hours down.

At the time the projector was £900, and a replacement bulb was £150. Now you can get decent and a lot smaller projectors for around £400, and replacement bulbs are a lot cheaper too.

Hi Rob - by fixed I mean permanently attached to a frame on the wall - it means the screen is taught - it should be wrinkle free and remain that way - richer sounds sell one - I am thinking of getting this one -http://www.richersounds.com/product/projector-screens-accessories/sapphire/sfsc234/sapp-sfsc234

Slight hijack...

I've got a non-functioning electronic whiteboard that I was ultimately thinking of using as a fixed projector screen. Do you reckon this will be any good. It was made to take a projected image so I assume it should be decent for this - maybe specially coated?

I'd be surprised if it was anywhere near as good as a proper screen dedicated for the purpose. Also I think they are designed for best viewing when projected on from a sharp angle.

Not seen one up close though, so if you have one already lying around you may as well try it before you abandon the idea.

Yeah I suppose they're not supposed to provide optimum quality. Maybe a step up from a wall painted white...
