Page 1 of Magnetically shielded speakers...quick question

Are they still of any relevance now if you wanted to place a speaker next to a LCD/Plasma TV ?
I would think not but best to know for certain.

AFAIK there`s no reason to have a shielded speaker anymore as this was only due to the screen colourising in the area of interference requiring a procedure known as degaussing.

Doesn`t hurt if the speaker is shielded but not an issue for the picture.

Alas Jitendar, that noise is being picked up before the speaker, probably by the amp circuit. :/

There might be other reasons to magnetically shield speakers, perhaps we should have a google :)

Lol, yes.

After a bit of research, there are still reasons to shield speakers, the magnetic fields are not good for HDDs, memory sticks, being near certain parts of your PC.

But the effects on most of these are temporary, well if you call losing your data temporary. :) Effects on CRTs are obviously a lot more permanent and require demagnetising, which I don't think fixes the worst cases completely.
