PARIS, January 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --

As the television and cinema industries accelerate their progression towards Ultra HD (4K), Eutelsat Communications (Euronext Paris: ETL) today announced it is launching a dedicated demonstration Ultra HD channel for Europe on the EUTELSAT 10A satellite. The first transmissions of content filmed in 4K will start on January 8. Delivering a resolution of eight million pixels, four times the resolution of HDTV, Ultra HD (4K) is poised to mark the next big leap forward in the immersive viewing experience.

I'm sure both of the people who own a TV set will enjoy the hour of available content on endless repeat. :)

Until the rich and stupid shell out for the new technology and show off to their friends it won`t filter down and get cheaper for the rest of us so I suppose we shouldn`t snear really.
Still you have to get your laughs where you can so snear away.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what `it` was.
Now, what I`m with isn`t it, and what`s `it` seems weird and scary

4K upscaling already available in the Marantz SR5007 AV receiver (which you can find for well under £500 on the net)...

Don't worry, 4K TV is going to just be a stepping stone, between HD and 8k!

I have not got HD yet, but have owned a 50" HD ready plasma TV for the last five years, as will not pay Sky's HD subscription, when some of their competitors on fibre cable, offer HD as standard.

I am out in the sticks so need a dish, so I will wait till Sky offers HD and ordinary tv at same subscription price. (Not much chance of that happening soon).

Also have never bought a blue ray disk, as I paid a small fortune to change my VHS collection to DVD, so I am not changing format again (so soon).

Sky have been offering free HD subscription to anyone with a multiroom sub for gawd knows how long.
If you seriously don't want to pay Sky and not happy witht he current free HD content (which apart from a couple of stations is the same as...) then get yourself a FreesatHD receiver and connect that up.

Then again, you could just continue to watch SD <shrug>
