Does the basic DVD-RW Video Mode have the same basic rename, split and erase options as DVD+RW?

DVD novice (Competent) posted this on Friday, 5th November 2004, 17:17

Hi,

Much has been said about DVD+RW having only basic editing (rename, split or erase) and also about the editing frenzy/TimeSlip on DVD-RAM and DVD-RW in VR Mode. However I would be grateful if someone could tell me if DVD-RW in Basic Video Mode has the same basic editing (rename, split or erase) as DVD+RW or is it more restrictive?

I need compatible Re-Recordable discs as I have 3 Kids who I will need to give discs to to play on their cheap players in their bedrooms / Playroom / on the Computer.

There should be no difference between -rw and +rw, unless it`s a quirk of a particlar recorder.
Saying that, there is no guarantee that a recorded media will work on your other players/Pc, even it they say they support rw.
The only real test is record a media and try it on all devices. Brands of media are of different quality. Stick with quality DVD media.

-RW(VIDEO) has no editing features,(but yu can name it if you want)but then, neither does +RW.They can both be recorded on,then watched elsewhere, then re-recorded.Although you can hide chapters on +RW you cannot do ANY editing on -RW(VIDEO).What exactly is it you want to do?
Your best bet for good editing is a HDD machine and copy to -R to keep,or -RW(VIDEO) to watch and reuse. Is it necessary though,to bother editing anything if you are not going to keep it?You just FF through the crap, then reuse the disc

Ho Ho Ho it`s back to the last century we go.... What on earth is Fast forward, one of those things left over from ........video tape, remember it. Get a DVd recorder with DVD-RAM then take out adverts & watch TV series, movies without any ADVERTS at all. Also it`s the most reliable re recording system there is. I would endorse getting a hard drive recorder but I think they are too pricey at the moment so the E55 remains the best & most reliable DVD recorder there is.

Well according to my dvd recorder manual, you can just make the ads a seperate chapter and hide them so you never need to see them. Who needs RAM? :D

Why call DVD-RAM a DVD-RAM?? It is a standred of it own as it does not compliy to full DVD spec hence its incompatilby with other players. The phyiscal layout of the data is not the same as on a DVD and the way the data is accessed is different so why the "DVD" part at the bigging I don`t work out?? Anyone like to fill me in an this?? Thankyou.

Paull lives on planet RAM.He does not seem to realise that you can only watch your RAM recording on the recorder itself(no doubt he will now reply that everyone he knows has RAM or a Panasonic player, unlike the real world),and if you are watching on the recorder, you can use -RW in VR mode.Yes +RW does allow hiding chapters, but skipping through the disc and placing the chapter marks takes longer than just FF through the ads.As I said before,if you are not going to keep it,why bother.
