Vauxhall Zafira Model B problem in the press/watchdog

Like always with these things there seems to be lots of conflicting advice, some bordering on scaremongering (but I guess that sells papers/generates more views than the facts :( ) Some were saying that it could be caused by vents getting blocked, I always get a full service and MOT each year as I know nothing about cars, so I'd hope any parts have been cleaned/replaced by proper ones anyway.

I emailed vauxhall late on Friday and at the weekend was told:

Quote:
If you are concerned about operating your vehicle or if you have noticed any unusual characteristics with the heating and ventilation system (for example a squeaking noise from the dashboard) you should contact your nearest Vauxhall dealer and arrange for your vehicle to be inspected for free.

What we are suggesting to Zafira B owners like yourself is until your car can be inspected, please set your fan speed to zero (0) on the heating and ventilation system. If necessary, use Level 4 only for the time needed to demist the windscreen.
So I phoned the dealer where I bought it a few years ago(2nd hand) this morning, they said they're taking bookings for week commencing the 9th Nov, said the check would take 30 mins, and they'd replace the part if need be, so it's booked in for the 12th so I can get it done before coming to work.

Let's hope its's not too cold in the mornings for the next week or so!

I guess they're not too worried, I suppose with the number of them on the road, and the number of fires the chances are super slim, funny though that when it gets close to MOT time they phone me on my mobile, leave messages on landline, write, email etc but don't bother to contact me about this? I guess it's not an official recall so they don't need to.

There is nothing worse that the thought that your car could catch fire. As you say it is better you get it checked out by a dealership.

Unfortunately car manufacturers after all these years of building, still make cars that have serious issues, and they try to play it down. You would think they would know how to make a safe car, but they don't, and leave the owners to be the guinea pigs.

I owned a Renault Fuego years ago, and it was notorious for electrical problems due to plug and socket connection throughout the car not having a locking together mechanism, so with car vibration, shorts, open circuits and fires did happen. On my car the dash started smoldering on the motorway, but luckly I had workers tools with me on the passengers seat and I ripped the offending burning switch out the dash and threw it out the car window before the cabin went up. Never bought a Renault car scince

mine got the all clear this morning, they replaced the pollen filter as it was a bit dirty, but I heard them talking to some-one else in waiting saying it was only a problem if parts had been replaced by a non genuine ones which didn't have a resister.

30 min wait was worth piece of mind, glad I can use heater again on way to and from work again :)

So, sat in the dealership, listening to the thunder as car has been recalled again!

Pain in the arse, but better than it exploding!
