hope it goes well.

Uber don't operate down here yet, but I noticed this morning while waiting for a colleague I give a lift to work a taxi with a big sign covering the rear door saying "Credit card accepted in this car". The phone number on the cab was one of the main ones in this area, but I haven't seen a credit card notice on the side of a car before.

Went to a one hour talk/presentation last night put on by the company.
This is how new it is.
They initially recommended someone else (Globe pay I think) that's now changed to PayPal because drivers aren't as thick as a lot of people think and they all did their own research and the ones that took it up mostly came to the same conclusion as me and went PayPal.
Payment is direct to the drivers account so the company wont have the same problem as I think Uber will face of drivers being employees rather than self employed. Not sure where but I think somewhere in GB a large number of drivers are taking a class action against Uber claiming that they should be due all the minimum wage/holiday/sickness etc that is due to employees.

The company will start pushing it as an option to customers once they get to a core number of drivers offering the facility which wont take them long. So expect to see a lot more of those stickers appearing on cabs as people realise it's a possibility.

It would have arrived as an option but has probably been hastened along a bit by Uber arriving.

Not sure if Jimbo still frequents this forum but I'd be interested to know if the Hackneys are offering it in his area or if Uber's arrived up there yet.

Just a couple of reports that may interest anyone thinking of booking Uber.
Halloween night (busy peak period) Uber charge £42.00 for  journey we would have done for about £13.00
Fare into town £8.00 fare to get back home, when it's hellish busy, £28.00. Private hire companies don't change their rates with traffic conditions which is the point that p*sses the Hackneys off about Uber.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what `it` was.
Now, what I`m with isn`t it, and what`s `it` seems weird and scary

A heads up to anyone starting down this road.
It's taken a matter of two days to start getting very genuine looking emails from e.paypal.
Just click, for any number of plausible reasons, please. Don't

If in doubt delete and go in through your account.

Which the vendor now has to pay as since 13th Jan it's been illegal to add on the charge to the customers bill.
