Thanks I'll ask.

In which case I'm surprised that HMIT haven't woken up to it. Then again, maybe not. They're a bit like that dinosaur, stamp on it's tail and it takes ages to go ouch.

You can get one through your bank but then you're probably talking about a merchant account with monthly rental, pci compliance, etc. but no harm in checking of course.

The little phone add-on swipey machines are still probably your best bet for occasional use.

Oh, well it was a deal at time of posting. It was PayPal unit for £59:99 from PayPal.

Asked my bank today and I knew more from 5 mins Googling than they did.

Looks like Paypal may well be the way to go apart from their customer services.
Have they improved? I had a problem, admittedly a few years back, over a payment which took forever to get in touch about.

Gone with PayPal. Everyone else quotes up to three days for funds to clear, PayPal are instantaneous. well they quote within 2 hours but in practice it's straight away.
Just the fun of setting up the card reader when it arrives.
If anyone else is going the same route I'm happy to extend a helping hand once I've got it working.

Went into a little Xmas pop up shop the other day and the lady there was using a swipey-phone-thing. Don't think it was paypal but all worked smoothly enough.

We use paypal for business and have found it really convenient and no problems so far. As you say, payment is instantaneous (unlike card payments) and we don't lose money when we do refunds (again, unlike credit card payments).
