Frack off

Lancashire council have refused test fracking in their county, this has been the best result possible to prevent this hellish technology coming to the UK.

http://www.lancasterguardian.co.uk/news/business/fracking-we-are-delighted-and-so-relieved-1-7332509

This follows on from Scotlands ban on fracking in its central region.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/earth/energy/fracking/11375332/SNP-announces-indefinite-fracking-ban-in-Scotland.html

Most of us have seen documentaries on USA fracking, where it destroys communities, due to noxious fumes from fracking plants, oil and chemicals leaching into the water table, causing gas and chemicals contaminating water sources, explosive gasses coming from house taps, and also minor earthquakes.

This technology has already been proven in the USA how dangerous it is to society, and should be shelved for good.

Well done to all those against it, keep up the good work

I am amazed no-one has make comment on this very important subject.

Its not as though we don't care because its up North, (Lancashire and Scotland targeted). WE ARE ALL TARGETED and we do care.

Down here in the South (London and home counties area) have areas that could be up for fracking, and so we are just as much a target.

Its just that the above two areas have been targeted first and Lancashire council and the Scottish Government has acted correctly, and so its up to us in the South and other areas to do likewise and ensure fracking is banned for good.

It has to stop now, and show our UK Government that fracking is not wanted. It creates devistating pollution (proven already in the USA), and not that many jobs to justify it (as though jobs is an excuse to justify it, while we choke and get poisioned).

We are all wise to this now, thank goodness, and everyone has to be vigilant to make sure fraking does not happen on our shores.

I think I posted something similar this on facebook, not here, when someone moaned about frakking.

The problem we have, is that most of us, want to be able to watch TV, use computers, phones, mp3 players, 24/7, we also want cheap power.

to me frakking sounds great, I don't live near an area where they want to do us, so I can just see the benefits, however  I wouldn't want it done in my street.

nuclear power is pretty good, until it goes wrong, so I don't want that in my street either.

there's a biomass dome near me, that doesn't bother me, seems pretty good, however all the people who live in the road that leads down to it, have "no biomass" signs in their window, despite the fact that none of their houses face it , so they don't see it that much and it's not that much of an eye soar.

wind power, those turbines seem to do the job to me pretty well, however ppl that live near wind farms seem to moan about the noise and them being an eye soar.

coal mines, guess we've been there, done that.

solar panels - new builds seem to have them, a few colleagues have them, said they were included in price of house, so it was sensible, they've not seen benefits yet though, however I'm pretty sure the cost of them means it's quite a long time most people will see cost savings.

I read somewhere about some plans to put loads in the desert, but I guess the initial cost is super high, and no-one wants to subsidise, or there's been some brown envelopes being passed around by the power companies to stop it ;)

so well, there we go, we're all selfish, we all want to have our cake and eat it, some-one has to give, probably those with the most money will win.

Yeah I agree with your posts bandicoot, but I refrain from posting up as you just end up with a lot of noise and arguments. No point in adding more noise to the internet!

But I do feel as Admars states above, that human beings are going to have to think long and hard and take proper action about a lot of things before too long. Not just power, but food as well, in particular eating meat in the huge quantities we do. Plus there's capitalism generally being in its end game. It's OK people putting banners and such like in the window and going on marches, but what are you prepared to practically do about it? Until we start rejecting the things we find abhorrent and just sit around talking about it, we're in trouble. I remember a few years ago a guy at work trying to get people to sign a petition to prevent a mobile phone mast being erected on his kid's school. I asked him if he'd stopped using his phone in protest. Well, of course not...

Bill Hicks said we let the devils run riot and he's right. And they're taking us to hell with them.

Rearrange these few words to create a well known phrase "Gates, flood, opened, " One positive side effect of fracking is if your central heating boiler packs up you could always ignite your tap water for some extra heat

Even when the council votes against it, seems the government can over-rule the decision. Because, well this lovely government believes in devolving powers to local authorities, except when it comes to its mates' businesses.

Hay Bandi! You could vote to stay in the EU! It's the only chance to stop it:

Even monitoring of on-site methane leaks and capture of gases and volatile compounds that might otherwise be vented, is not a satisfactory safeguard.

it just cannot be regulated at all, as they do not know what is going on below the ground. The only safe solution is not to frack. Period!.

Problem is not just local atmosphere that can be affected, but also the water table can easily be contaminated, which ruins water sources, and earthquakes can result due to underground slipage, where the later was experienced near Blackpool five years ago, and fracking was closed down at the time, hopefully for good, but unfortunately its back again.

These effects have all been proven in the states on how dangerous fracking is, all for a few to make a greedy profit, but ruins the lives of people living above it.

If we need new energies, then more green power can be created, give everyone free roof solar panels for a start, and we will not have any so-called energy shortage in the future.

oh, we are not allowed free energy, you say, what a pity!
