Identifying, or suggestions small high seated car

pat-w (Elite) posted this on Sunday, 7th June 2015, 17:03

I've decided to start saving for a replacement car. The ideal vehicle in terms of size is a Mercedes Benz A class but I'm concerned about service repair costs with a Mercedes. I know I've seen another make that was very similar in size, height & shape but can't remember which manufacturer it was. I was convinced it was Toyota but looking on auto trader I couldn't find it. I'm hoping someone here might have some suggestions of small, high seated, automatic transmission vehicles. It has to be high seated because I have a back injury, & an automatic for the same reason. Not buying for about 10 months as I don't want to buy on credit but I would be grateful if anyone could help in finding the simular car to the A class.
What I really need is a few hours looking in a car supermarket but as a full time carer I just can't find the time to go to one. I'm really hoping someone has seen the type of car I'm after to give me some time to research before buying.
Thanks.

Isn't that only really an issue if you get it done at a main dealer?

I've never owned a Mercedes, but I would of though parts for a Merc are likely to cost more than say a Suzuki or Toyota.

Alfie, to be honest, while that's a nice looking car, its another "premier" brand but thanks anyway.

sorry its taken me so long to reply, not had a lot of time lately.

I know parts for my BMW are usually very reasonable, and I also know that some parts for some Toyotas (say the back window glass for an MR2) can be insane. :o

Tends to be my arguement against most main agent workshops.
Essentialy you're paying for the 'Free coffee' tiled workshop and the receptionists manicure.
I prefer garages where I speak to the guy who sticks his head under the bonnet.

I found the look a like (sort of)
The A Class shape is the older model, in fact I really dislike the new shape.
Not sure if the photo upload will work as the image is from the auto trader website, but here's a picture of the A Class, followed by the similar car, a Honda

I'm well aware the Mercedes would be a nicer place to be but I keep reading Honda owners saying it's a very reliable manufacturer. And as I've already said, I'm concerned about the cost of repairs & general service parts for a Mercedes Benz.

main dealers generally round here are £90+vat per hour... there are many good independent specialists at half that hourly rate!

Even with a brand new car you can use an independent garage, so long as they are VAT registered, and complete the servicing according to the manufacturers specifications.

Never. Ever, use a main dealer.
That extra 45 quid an hour is paying for the carpet in reception, the 'free' coffee' and your fleeting fantasy that you might stand a chance with the receptionist as she does her nails. Which you are also paying for.

Use somewhere where the owner get's his hands dirty. He may not be as good looking but with the 45 quid an hour you save you can go and ogle the barmaid.
