US actor James Best, who was best known for his role as bumbling sheriff Rosco P Coltrane on TV show Dukes of Hazzard, has died aged 88.

He died in a hospice in Hickory, North Carolina, after a brief illness due to complications from pneumonia, his wife Dorothy said.

Hearing him interviewed a few years ago, he was obviously not like his most famous character at all, and seemed a really modest nice guy.

I beg to differ. Rosco and Boss Hogg were straight of the pages of a comic and beautifully played by James Best and Sorrell Booke ( yes I did have to Google him).
