Ebola

I don't pay much attention to newspapers, but surely one of them is going scare crazy over Ebola atm?

Or is it so serious this time they are actually leaving it to the grown up broadsheets?

From listening to 5Live last night Keith Vaz seems to be doing alright on his own.

Up to three week gestation and not infectious until symptoms show when you can spot the unwell from a long way off. The only thing screening arrivals will do is cause considerable delays and scare people sh**less. It's a PR move.

The tabloids will only go mental when (not if) the first case turns up over here.

Go and have a look at that Frankie Boyle show just to wiz forward to the ex Scotsman editor and his overall opinion of the print media (remember he now lectures on the subject)

I used to be with it, but then they changed what `it` was.
Now, what I`m with isn`t it, and what`s `it` seems weird and scary

Second case in Texas:

A second health worker in the US state of Texas has tested positive for Ebola, health officials say.

Both health workers treated Liberian man Thomas Duncan, who died last week after becoming the first person diagnosed with Ebola in the US.

Meanwhile, the UN's Ebola mission chief says the world is falling behind in the race to contain the virus.

You'd probably get a majority of Rednecks to vote for invading Ebola.

I wonder how many of these cases reported so far have been due to trained medical personnel making simple (but deadly) mistakes.

The nurse in Spain seems to have wiped her brow with a glove after treating an ebola patient in what may have been reflex action.

http://arstechnica.com/science/2014/10/us-announces-pause-in-funding-for-changing-the-species-a-virus-targets/

Quote:
The funding pause will apply to any projects that can allow viruses like the flu, MERS, and SARS to either add mammals to the list of species they can infect, or to increase their virulence following infection. The government also hopes that any lab pursuing this research using private funding will voluntarily join in the pause. Researchers who are simply studying naturally occurring viruses without modifying them will not be affected by this pause.

That's just scary that they were doing that at all.
