Page 1 of Grandad's Army

So the cast has been announced for a film version of Dad's Army
I admit to a huge dose of Hmmmm at the proposed film.

Despite the array of talent assembled it has the potential to bomb in a very big way. A definite wait and see. It's going to be hard for those who loved the original not to hear the original actors voicing the lines so let's see how many liberties they take with the old catchphrases.
Otherwise ......wait for it.......

It's doomed.

Remember the "Carry On" reboot? No me neither, I know I've seen it, but can't remember anything about it. I can't even remember what it was called.
Can't help thinking this is gonna be just like that.

That's quite a cast! Toby Jones is a chameleon so I have no doubt he'll do a great Mainwaring.

Still at Hmmmm level.
Michael Gambon looks good as Godfrey but I've always been a fan of his anyway.
Much less certain about Mainwaring.

Perhaps a bit like the new 'Yes Ministers'. Once you took them at their own level and stopped trying to hear Eddington and Hawthorne they were very good, but then that was the same writers.

Never seen it, never saw any promotional material for it either.

Looking at the teaser, one word can describe it: faithful. The characters look spot on to the original, but it's a twee little project that won't make any money. At least not anywhere but here

Writer`s Release

I watched the trailer earlier and found it very uninspiring and instantly forgettable.

I think the film will be much the same.

^^^ Exactly what I thought. If they saved the best stuff for the trailer I think they're in trouble.
