This means that people are now free to make copies of DVDs, CDs and other types of media, as long as they’re for personal use and without copyright protection. In addition, it’s no longer copyright-infringing to store copies of legally purchased media to the cloud.

Which to me sounds like you can't backup DVDs for your own personal use, as they are copy protected.

Maybe it also includes format shifting.

Not that any of us care, we were all doing it anyway.

Heh yeah, should have been legal in June apparently but it got delayed. Probably due to lobbying.

I gave up buying physically copy protected CD's years ago, when I found out they were iffy in my car player.

In fact I took a copy protected Mike Oldfield CD back to the shop and they refused to give me my money back or exchange, due to my reasoning, that it was not fit to play in some CD players.

I then told them I was going to take this higher up to their HQ, and the shop manager relented and said chose another CD.

Never bought a CD with copy protection on it again.

You should have had your money back. It's technically not fit for purpose. I'd have kicked up merry shiz until they handed the readies over.

And I agree. I stopped buying copy protected stuff a while ago now, including DVD's. I just take whatever comes for free on Freeview now, as well as my own DVD rips.

The answer is I did get a replacement CD, after some fuss, (only buy now online and not shop) and I never bought a Mike Oldfield CD again, as his music went really downhill.
