RE: Have Santander been compromised?

Hi Peter, that's interesting!

I filled out a contact form on Santander's account section (after you've been logged in), asking them if they had any idea how the address I created especially for them ended up in spam, and to their credit they didn't just fire back a standard email.

A nice guy from them not only took the time to ring me personally (on both my mobile and landlines till he got hold of me), but he also said he'd rung their security centre (or whatever it is they call it) to ask if there had been any breaches and that they said no.

I appreciate that there are plenty of ways that this email address could have been gained, beyond a site compromise, such as man in the middle attacks sniffing unsecured smtp email transactions.

But your post makes me wonder again.

At least our bank logins aren't email address based. :)

Just got another piece of spam to my Santander address. From "Basile Elidia" (aidinilEelisguauvB[at]moc.kooltuo)...

Quote:
"Our international HR Office gives our customers the best staff employment solutions and operates on all continents. We guarantee thorough analysis in human capital management and workforce optimisation for both large enterprises and small firms planning to achieve a more productive and effective personnel."

And an obligatory load of junk news headlines at the end presumably to help it get passed spam filters.

The worrying thing? It had my surname in the subject field, which doesn't appear in my email address.
