... and someone nicks my catalytic converter...

Jitendar Canth (Reviewer) posted this on Thursday, 17th April 2014, 12:35

Jeez! Just parked outside my house. Went to start the car this morning, loud noise, engine warning light, no power. Crawl to the garage, and find that someone went for the catalytic converter with a pair of cutters.

WTF! Apparently car alarms don't extend to people hacking away at the exhaust.

Yup £370 down...

Of course I could claim it on insurance, which will ultimately cost me more in premiums. Car insurance is useless if it's for yourself. It's only if someone else gets involved that you have to rely on it.

Thing is, it's a Honda Accord. Not a 4x4. You'd have to be a skinny barsteward to get under it, let along operate a powertool.

That's s*** that mate.
Won't cost as much as this though.  Remember this one anyone?  Still got the car too lol.  I obviously did claim.

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..

Ouch!

That was horrendous, although my damage appears to be spreading. Just got the car back with a new exhaust, and it turns out that it killed the O2 sensor as well, whatever that is. That's another £150-ish.

The police were around and noted the incident, although what else can they do other than to advise to me to call them if I see anyone suspicious sniffing around cars on my street? I live in South East London. I'll be on the phone twenty-four seven!

Where the root of the problem lies is with crooked junk yards that deal with the metal trade, and that crooks have a place to sell metal. Take that away and the will not do it, if they get no money out of it.

The police must know which junk yards are hooky, and get tore into them. A few should be closed down if caught dealing as an example, then the rest in the trade will not take stolen metal anymore, or any that is suspect, ie, dealing with known crooks.

It used to be lead of church roofs, but now its bits of cars (re: this story) and also stealing metal drain and water mains covers on the road and pavements, that make it so dangerous for drivers and pedestrians.

It's not so much the crooked junk yards anymore. It's the fact that within 24 hours of being nicked, they're in a container on a ship heading to China to be recycled.

So it's march on Beijing or sanctions and cancel the crispy beef and noodles.

Sorry to make light of it. I know I'd be spitting if it happened to me. I'm fit to rip arms off if I get a ding in my door at the supermarket.
