The more I read about this the more it seems South Africa has it`s very own OJ saga.

According to the papers today, a neighbour heard three shots and screaming, then ten minutes silence, then three more shots. That`s a lot of shots.

The police have asked not to allow bail, in case he does a runner.

According to Pistorius`s "sworn statement" read out in court - he woke during the night hearing a noise.  Traced it to the bathroom, fired four times through the door and then went back to the bedroom.  Finding Ms Steenkamp was not in the bed, he returned to the bathroom, broke down the door and found her dying.

I`ve redacted my original reaction written here which was based on BBC News`s appalling online coverage of the case.

Apparently Pistorius is using the Visagie defence - in 2004, former Springbok Rudie Visagie shot and killed his 19-year-old daughter thinking she was a thief stealing her own car.  Violent crime in South Africa is such a problem that there seems to be a shoot-first-and-ask-questions-later culture.

10/3/14 ....Pathologist tells of Pistorious using dumdum bullets.

These are hollow point bullets outlawed in most western countries, though not in South Africa. They mushroom on contact, and create greater damage.

Thought the angle of bullets travelling through door (downwards or upwards) would be mentioned, but not yet, I assume it would be the police statments to follow that will talk about it. This would tell if Pistorious was on his legs or not. He said he was vulnerable to 'a burglar' as he was on his stumps at the time, so this should tell if he was telling truth.

An interesting subject that will be cross examined tomorrow, is that Pathologist mentioned contents of deceased stomach contents, tells that food was eaten at 1AM, differing from Pistorious's story that they eat and then went to bed at 10PM. Maybe she had a snack, we find out tomorrow.

The defence lawyer really tore into the Police evidence on the door today.

South African first: its the first time a toilet door has been brought in as evidence :D

It seems the evidence was tainted, with police boot marks on the door where they stood on it, plus other marks added since it was taken away????, and bits of door left out on the reconstruction (the police reconstructed the panel that was smashed out with a cricket bat by Pistorius, to prove angle of hit by bat).

Also there was a mark made, which the defence say was Pistorious trying to kick open door with his stump. Not sure where all this is going???

PLus....No mention of angle of bullets through door yet (if the door is thick enough to figure out).

When I heard the whole assembling the toilet cubicle story on the news last night, hitting it with cricket bats, and allegations of police tampering with the evidence etc it all sounded a bit "Naked Gun" :(

From what they said on the radio those bullets sound even more scary than "normal" bullets.

All the character witness stuff about him being a gun nut, is scary as well, I've heard at least 2 stories of him firing guns out of moving car windows, and 2 restaurant incidents!

Today, it was all about photographs showing the bloody route of Pistorius getting shot girlfriend downstairs, to the foot of the stairs. PIstorius sat with bucket in case of wretching.  Either genuine or a good act, only he knows at present.

Defence lawyer will put questions on this tomorrow. 
Not sure what angle he will play this, as it seems straight forward, but should be interesting.
