As much as I like any opportunity to bash the old goat, I'm not sure you can really blame her. The reasons given for turning it down appear to be around public information that we all knew about, rather than all the things we didn't know about.
Has anyone watched the Louis Theroux documentary in hindsight? I keep meaning to do that...

Quote:
Information has been passed to Newsnight by a former officer, who is familiar with the original investigation and its closure.
The order to scrap the inquiry, made after Smith and others had been arrested, came from a senior officer whom the undercover team had never met before, according to the source.
Officers were then ordered to hand over all their evidence - including notebooks and video footage - and were warned to keep quiet about the investigation or face prosecution under the Official Secrets Act, it is claimed.

Cue government inquiry lasting just enough years for all the guilty to either die or be too senile to make any difference.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what `it` was.
Now, what I`m with isn`t it, and what`s `it` seems weird and scary
Interestingly I went by Sir Jimmy's 'butt and ben' (house) in Glen Coe this week when up in Scotland.
You cannot miss it, as the house stands alone in the Glen just off the main road, and its still pure white painted, but at least all the graffiti is off it, now that it belongs to someone else (sold in 2013).
A few walkers with backpacks were looking at the house as I passed by in the car, and it brought back memories of years ago passing the exact same spot and seeing a blonde haired guy with a big cigar sitting there waving at everyone.
What a nice guy, Jimmy was portraying.
If we had only known the truth. Yet another hero down the tubes.
Tony Blackburn sacked ahead of abuse report, apparently because his version of events differ from the BBC's version:

What gets me is all these celeb attacks, as they are easy pickings.
Think this Sit Jimmy stuff should end now as its turned into a Witch hunt.
Now if you look at the same situation with regard politicians, they know how to do it.....There are massive coverups, deliberate loss of evidence and any devious means used to hide the truth. Thats politicians for you, they are as sneaky and greasy as ell, and know how to wiggle out of things. The nature of the job.
Not particularly a Louis Theroux fan but he does always seem to manage a balanced view of his subjects.
This is worth a read as he re examines his encounters with Saville

a really interesting read... and i am sure the documentary will be equally interesting
Thanks, looking forward to thos documentary.
Sir JIm knew how to hide his dark side, as i for one really though this man deserved a knighhood for all the charitable deeds he did, running up and down the country. Serving as a porter in hospitals, etc.
It was such a bitter blow to the country to find out the real nasty side Jimmy Savile.
