To me, regardless of the surrounding circumstances of WikiLeaks, the central premise is pretty simple.
You cannot disregard the surrounding circumstance of Wikileaks verses the rape case, thats the whole point.

It says in that article.....
" The police are investigating. They have questions they would like Assange to answer. Instead, his supporters are so fixated with the myth of American imperialism and its supposedly creeping tentacles that they would rather we subvert the rule of law."

The law in this case is used as a weapon, to get him extradited.

It is obvious to supporters of Assange and almost everybody else, that he has been trully set up so that the USA can get him via extradiction from Sweden, and once he is in the States God help him as it will be a kangaroo court for him, assuming he even makes the court.

We are all well aware over the years that if you face the wrath of American might, especially by embarassing them over their lax security, that you will be set up either by a sex event, or a scandal, or tax evasion. It is so easy for them as they control `the establishment` to bend the law to suit what they want. Anything to get the arm of law after you, and then extradited, and behind bars.

If the swedes guaranteed him no extradition they couldtry him tomorrow he has stated that previously so it is a huge influence on the case

Correct, and that`s why its so fishy, because the Swedish are not guaranteeing Assange from getting shipped off to America.

Why?

Because he will be shipped there as fast as they can legally do it.

No wonder the guy is holed up in a London Embassy.

Assange won his case today in the European rights, but as expected the UK and Sweden has not recognised this as overturning their right to arrest him. He is still as wanted man,

So he is still stuck in the Ecuadorian embassy at a cost to the British taxpayers of £12 million to keep police guarding the doors 24hours a day.

PS....I watched TV this morning showing one of these expensive policeman at the door looking at the camera, as a guy behind him left the Embassy and walked away very fast.  That should have been Assange's chance of escape, but he blew it

Well, they stopped the heavy police presence quite a while ago, but that doesn't mean they aren't still watching him.

Rather glad you bumped this one as I'd grown unfamiliar with the finer points of the situation. The case against him is still unmitigated bullshit and a weak-ass excuse to get him to the states, but for him to arrogantly state that a ruling from a bunch of people who have no legal powers over the relevant countries means that all charges should be dropped and his passport returned, is just essentially infantile.

It's hard to say what the case against him is without a proper trial, but the fact that the Swedish authorities refuse to guarantee him that they won't deport him to the US just makes it seem that way (and hard to think otherwise).

Does this mean it's now OK for anyone or any organisation or any 'nasty' governments to ignore and disregard UN 'rulings' now due to their lack of legal powers?  Or is it only OK when it suits?
Interesting point of view to believe UN rulings having any form of standing is infantile.

Does anyone take anything released by the UN seriously these days?
