Had them in our loft when I was a kid.

I woke up one night and saw my mum & dad stood by my bedroom door just looking at me. I pretended to be asleep through fear I`d be in trouble for something...

Turns out they were waiting for me to wake up - quite why they didn`t give me a nudge I don`t know... they`d left our kitchen light on when they went to bed and the buggers had found their way in.

Had a huge swarm of them all around the light, and flying all around the kitchen.

My dad then realised that to drive to my grandma`s house where we were gonna get ready for school, he needed his glasses, which were in the kitchen... d`oh! Quite funny looking back at it, but he didn`t think so at the time...

They found a new nest in the loft this weekend... uh-oh...

It`s a shame you didn`t have the option just to block up how they were getting into your loft so they`d go into his. :/

Unfortunately, they are both old adjoining houses and the divider brickwork which is two walls with an air space gap, has old cement that is brittle and is full of gaps on my side, and I assume his side as well, considering how these wasps got through.

In the loft conversion room next to the divider wall, I had build a wooden partition wall with gyprock sheeting in front of this old uneven brick wall to hide it and make a nice modern wall in the new room. So it would have ment me knocking down the whole partion wall sheeting to be able to re-cement beween each brick, and then rebuild the wall sheeting again. A massive task and more costly than the wasp man, so not worth considering !

Anyway its all sorted now, till the next time.

Winchester woman finds 3ft wasp nest on bed

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-28949601

Quote:
The wasps had chewed through the pillows and the mattress of the bed in order to make their nest larger

A pest controller said he took on "the biggest job of his career" when he was called to deal with a nest of more than 5,000 wasps.
John Birkett, of Longwood Services Pest Control, said removing the 3ft (91cm) nest from a bed in Winchester was his most unusual job in 45 years.

They are totally hellish things  in a house, as per my last post in 2011.

Funny thing is that have hardly seen a wasp this year, inside or out.

There's been loads down here this year, although no where near 5000!

I can't believe she didn't hear them buzzing or anything if the nest had taken that long to build!

We had a swarm of bees come through the garden a couple of weeks ago who decided they rather liked my lilac tree and settled there. Fortunately the bee keeping association removed them for free as they took them to a local keeper whowas looking for a new swarm :-)

Lol how do they do that? Is there a bird equivalent of a sheepdog for bees? Or do they play a pipe?

Anyone know what kind of insect this is? Caught Suvi playing with it before I hit it with my flip flop.
