According to my iPad I`m 12% in... unfortunately Book 16 of The Wheel of Time came out just after I started it so I`m going to finish that first.  It`s only taken 23 years for the series to finish!  I have a feeling George R. R. Martin`s Game of Thrones will take just as long!

I just haven`t had the time recently to read as I spend a lot of time now around the gf`s flat so feel rude picking up a book in front of her!

I've just started Code Breaking by Rudolf Kippenhahn, fuelled by the recent Numberphile youtube shorts about the breaking of the Enigma code.

Still slowly working my way through A Clash of Kings :)

I`ve just finished reading Pigeon English by Stephen Kelman, which is about a stabbing on an estate in London and how it affects a young boy from Africa who decides to investigate.  Not the sort of thing I usually read, but I really got sucked in and it was actually really moving, especially towards the end.

I`ve also just read Christmas at Tiffany`s by Karen Swan, which was very enjoyable and lighthearted, but I somehow suspect that most of you guys don`t read trashy roman novels :)  I`m waiting for Christmas at the Cupcake Cafe by Jenny Coogan at the library too, but there`s 8 more reservations in front of me!

One of the best American Si Fantasy books of all time, I have owned my paperback copy for decades and still read it today.

A Merrit`s `The moon pool` copyright 1919, first printed in paperback 1951.

Hope you can get a hold of it as its a great adventure ... through a portal to a fantastic world.

Signed copy of `Mortal Engines` by Philip reeve (in hardback). £30 reduced to a fiver, in bargain books.

He is one of the authors of `Horrible histories` the childrens book series, so this is supposidely a childrens book about an after atomic wars Earth and towns and cities are now on wheels, eating up each other for assets. There is also the anti-traction league dedicated to oppose these wandering towns.

The story seems quite heavy and dark material for children, and leans more towards adult reading.

It is a very descrptive story and would make a great film, with massive moving cities, great escapes, hunted by renovation men (androids), etc. Really gripping and a good read.

Just finished Surface Detail by Iain M Banks.
One of his later Culture novels and the first I've read since starting writing seriously. It gave me an entirely different appreciation of the skill, breadth of imagination and shear bloody courage in his writing.

Now halfway through The Long Earth by Terry Pratchett & Stephen Baxter.
I must admit I had no idea that Terry Pratchett had done any collaborative writing at all. Not at all sure if it would have happened anyway or whether it's as a result of Terry's Alzheimers but either way it works and despite one reviewer stating that you can't see the join between the two it's certainly possible to imagine Terry's smile on several occasions in the writing.
The first in an intended four book series and I'll definitely be reading the other three.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what `it` was.
Now, what I`m with isn`t it, and what`s `it` seems weird and scary

I'm sure I read a great collaboration he did with Neil Gaiman? Good Omens I think it was called, from the early nineties.

BLACKPOOL VANISHES by Richard Francis (fiction, dated 1979).

A Si-fi book about microscopic flying saucers seen over Blackpool for years, and then the takeover of the town in an unusual manner.

Its a combination of si-fi, comedy, a detective story, murder with rather gory deaths and adult themes in places. Its just weird, but very Northern British.
