Page 1 of Credit Note Refund - Sports Direct

I bought something from Sports Direct the other week and went to take it back a few days later with the receipt and they said I could only take a credit note as they no longer do refunds.

Is this allowed?  It`s 200 quid which needs to be used in the next 12 months so obviously I`d rather have the cash back on my card instead of a credit note this large!  Anyone no any consumer rights that can be used or is what they have done legit?!  :(

Someone might KNOW. I don`t.

It`s called `customer retention`. Rather than just give you the cash which you can use elsewhere, they`ve given you a voucher for the value of your original purchase, which is just as good as money, but only in their store. It`s a bastard, but I`m pretty sure it`s all legal and above board

just done some research, if there was nothing wrong with the items that you returned, then the credit note is MORE than you are entitled to by law. If the items were accepted in perfect condition, then the shop actually had no reason to take them back and actually did you a favour. You paid your money, you got your goods.

If the items were faulty, then the credit note isn`t good enough. In that case, you`re entitled to a refund in the form of an identical replacement, or in the format in which you originally paid

As a matter of interest, how did it go?

PS, you could ask friends if they want to buy from Sports Direct that they give you the money & use your voucher, or advertise it in `free adds` & take a small loss or lastly write to head office, you never know.

B&Q do exactly the same, but if you dont return item within 45 days with the receipt you get nothing! No receipt at all no refund, even if you can provide bank statement as it has to be itemised... I wont shop there again!

Unless the rules have changed UK Retail Law entitles you to a refund, repair or exchange (at the Retailer`s discretion for which), including the option of them issuing a credit note for a refund if the issuing store cannot be proven or for an item otherwise not defective as long as proof of purchase can be produced.

Your Bank Statement may just say "POS = £x.xx" but the bank can trace which Retailer used the card and issue an itemised statement to that effect usually.

`Course, all dependant on the cost involved and if it was worth it... for a £4.99 item it`s hardly worth the grief but for a £200 lawnmower for example it`d be well worth doing it.

well they nearly had a £4500 kitchen cancellation, and two bathrooms... due to their changing terms of sale!

The issue i have with them is mainy that when you buy paint or wallpaper you do this in batches, i did for a new kitchen then had to wait 6 weeks for it to be delivered then another month for the fitters! all this before i could use the items which are then outside of the 45 day policy!

Their attitude from the duty store manager - Cancel the Order, you didnt order it at our store?

I would rather drive 10 miles out of my way than put money in their pockets... and what makes it worse is i have over 5000 shares in Kingfisher... which i will sell soon!
