Let me rewrite that for you...

"Anyway through sheer luck my children survived all those intervening years intact, thank god, and that's without the MMR jab. Good job we have the right to completely disregard smart intelligent scientists over one single doctor with financial conflicts of interest, who created a scare over a vaccine with a fraudulent research paper, because having the freedom to do really stupid things that needlessly put our innocent children at risk is more important than us being wrong."

I find it amazing how you can think MMR has any links with autism (it doesn't), or any credible scientist or organisation thinks it has any links with autism (they don't, in fact they all say it definitely doesn't), yet one doctor who deliberately falsified evidence because he had his own single jab he was trying to patent and make money out of, he is the guy you trust.

Actually, I've read enough of your opinions to not find it amazing. :( People like Andrew Wakefield are probably heroes to you. :/

In fairness Rob, bandicoot hasn't said he did nothing, just that they didn't get the MMR.  While I COMPLETELY agree with you regarding MMR, maybe bandi did get them separate vaccinations.  If neither, then that's bordering on negligence and is dangerous and selfish in my eyes.

I know a few ppl who have autistic children. One (who is in his early 40s, his son must be late teens by now) said, it was interesting when his son was diagnosed, as he noticed that his cousin displayed a lot of those characteristics, and thinking about it further, her dad, his uncle, suggesting they're both autistic.

I think a lot of it comes down to years ago we didn't have names for these things, didn't know they existed, or had different names for them. I'm no expert but I'd imagine some "eccentric" people are autistic.

Similarly, some ppl say lactose intolerence, gluten intolerance etc are new things, but my guess is, theyr'e not, they've been around for years, but they were all lumped together as "having a week stomach".

Absolutely. Luke (my eldest) has been diagnosed with ADHD, and because of the diagnosis, he's getting specific help for it. Thing is, looking through all the symptoms and traits associated with the disorder, it's EXACTLY how I was when I was his age. (Inattentive, easily distracted, perceived as 'lazy', hard to stay focused on mundane tasks)

Talk to my mother or sister and they'll just say that's how I was, but after looking into it better than not at all, I'm possibly a textbook case. I still have moments when I want to do 5 things at once but spend so long deciding I end up running out of time to do any of them.

ADHD didn't re-enter the medical journals as a recognised condition until 1983-ish, about a decade after I was born, so there was all these kids (I could name another 5 kids in the same boat as me) with these undiagnosed conditions who weren't being recognised, and getting no help for it whatsoever.

Autism is now better understood then it ever was, and privately-financed quacks with an agenda are only serving to do untold damage to our children.

The quote in there that telling people they are wrong just makes them stick with their beliefs even stronger, makes linking this pointless. :/

Makes perfect sense to me. Sadly, that had far too many long words for the anti-vaxxers

Sigh :(

Immunization rates plummeted, and last month the first cases of measles appeared. Soon there was a full-blown outbreak, one of the starkest consequences of an intensifying anti-vaccine movement in the United States and around the world that has gained traction in part by targeting specific communities.

The idiot dangerous UK doctor that released fraudulent research and caused this false link between MMR and Autism now lives in the US, where he can wander around putting children at risk, without any sense of remorse.

Quote:
Anti-vaccine activists defend their position and their role, saying they merely provided information to parents.

“The Somalis had decided themselves that they were particularly concerned,” Wakefield said last week. “I was responding to that.”

He maintained that he bears no fault for what is happening within the community. “I don’t feel responsible at all,” he said.

Gees us, this subject rears its ugly head once again.

I was totally against the jab, reading my earlier comments in 2009.

Anyway I have calmed down now to keep my blood pressure low, and I am glad my kids are now grown up and by that stage.

Some oi which are now parents and can make their own choices regarding jabs for their young children. Good luck whatever they decide. I am keeping out of it (as dictated by my wife).
