RE: Banksy at the Bristol Museum
Yeah - I`d be happy to see the links.
I guess I learned to love the Burroughs stuff when I was working on a documentary that put me in touch with him and others (like Terry Wilson who was close to Gysin). I have quite a bit of correspondence ....as well as some artworks and rarities, including the receipt for his first purchase of art materials by Burrough in Kansas following Gysin`s death. There may be an element of emporer`s new clothes about them isn`t there always) yet they seemed to perfectly reflect the Burroughs schtick.
Gilbert and George may be something of a one-trick pony (and actually graphic designers as much as anything) but I was lucky enough to have spent some time with them and they were charming. I don`t know what madd me think of them....the closes thing to graffitti art that I could think of perhaps?!
Sorry about getting so uppity about Banksy. Radical art generally has that effect, though I`m normally more inclined to champion than object. How weird. I must be getting old. :/
Sounds like you have a very interesting career
I once met egon ronay!
I`ve gone totally blank now I have come to make some recommendations so this is just a few
You probably know Obey - sheperd fairey - he did the cover of the latest Lep Zep album and the iconic Obama print
He is also known for contributing to Andre the Giant`s legend - and is a prolific paste-up`er
Invader - does some good stuff inc his Rubik Kubricks
Logan Hicks - another stencilist, very detailed
Blu
Tyler Stout - does a lot of film and concert posters (incl FoTC) - his Robocop is very f***ing cool
looking at these now - the majority probably fall under the design banner as well
RE: Banksy at the Bristol Museum
Some nice stuff there...as you say, probably more `illustrator / graphics` than fine art but clever stuff nonetheless. Never heard of Tyler Stout but like his work....
Re: My Career...I`ve inadvertedly made it sound far more interesting than it actually is by pinpointing a couple of highlights in an otherwise fairly mundane working life. Most the time I make crushingly dull corporate films so arguably I am really in no position to criticise anyone else`s `art`!
I have been lucky enough to occasionally abuse the possibilities in order to meet people I like but there are not that many of those!
Thanks for the links! :D
Exit Through The Gift Shop is released on DVD and Blu Ray 6th Sept 2010. I didn`t get to see it at the cinema so might just buy it, is it worth it whoot, or anyone else who has seen it?
Banksy has made it now:

ETTGS is WWAW
Thought it was pretty good, interesting how 1st half is like proper documentary, then as it goes on the line between fact and fiction gets more blurry :) Reminded me of Beastie Boys videos and their video director nathanial Hornblower :)
In the ad breaks there were some Banksy inspired messages showing old adverts, a different voice over for an embarrasing bodies advert which was v funny (made it like a Jam/Blue Jam sketch!), and then this :)
