Can an off duty police officer give you a ticket? I was threatened with getting one, just wondered whether they could or not.

Many years ago me and big Dave were coming home from the pub. Dave had not been drinking. A car overtook us on the wrong side of a mini island and then cut us up and slowed right down. Dave took them back. They then took us back and forced Dave to stop. This bloke gets out, flashes his warrant card. He trys to take Daves keys from the car through his open window. 3 time Dave smacks his hands. He then goes on about phoning through to the police to have him breath tested. Dave is of course fine with this. The off duty copper then tells his girlfriend who was driving to go home and he will be there in a bit. At this point Dave points out that he believes that she has been drinking and he would like her to stay for a test too. At the same time dave flashes his RAF ID card. He knows this gives him no powers, but it threw the baby copper. He was really in a flap now insisting she had not been drinking. Dave then suggests that maybe she has been having a smoke of the green. The copper is now really flapping. Dave is now out of the car taking notes. Times, car reg, descriptions, asking to see his warrant card again for his details. The copper says we can go and just be more careful. Dave is having non of it and is now insisting he is breath tested to clear his good name and that he is reporting the copper for trying to act while drunk. Thus drunk on duty. This went on for over 2 hours. Was brill to see Dave at work. He is a pro p*** taker. Can`t remember how it ended, but we won.

I`ve had a `plastic-policeman` (one of those voluntary copper jobsworth knobbers) try and pull all sorts of s*** after a road related incident.
I openly laughed in his face and told him to GTF.
I suspect a genuine, but off duty, copper would get the same response.

No uniform,no listen.

I have got out of two fights using the `Im a copper so you really dont want to do this` line.

Its easy and fun.

i ask why would he have tickets on him/her? in essence i would report the person for the offence...

as a police constable (tithers would say chief inspector) you are sworn to act to uphold the peace, and to save and protect life... in theory you are `never off duty` and alwasy have the powers of a constable, however in reality when i am off duty i am off duty, unless i believe it is the public interest to intervene...

ie if shopping and i see a shoplifter i advise store staff
if i see some one drink driving then i call for assistance of a `uniformed officer`
if i come across an RTC i deal with it as a pesron on scene and call for assistance
if i see someone getting a kicking, i intervene...

every situation is different, you have to weigh up the situation like you would on duty, if ther is danger to yourself or others then its a judgement call, and you dont know what you would do until it happens...

as for people driving dangerously, i take there registration, and description of driver, if there are other witnesses to this i take their details to... i then get statements of what they have seen, and then go and knock on the door of the dangerous driver and report them for the incident! :D

inconsiderate drivers can get the same treatment... ;)

What`s your stance on plastic policemen 999 ?
I`m genuinely interested.
I`ve only had limited dealings with them I admit, but the several I have come across strike me as nothing other than meddling twits with nothing better to do,desperately trying to command some respect because they don`t get any at home/at work.
I`ve seen one get involved in a situation that simply didn`t need his involvement,to the point where it escalated and the escalation was 100% down to him. :/ >:(

It was quite funny though, seeing the two feuding parties forget their gripes and unite against this special c***stable, who was like Victor Meldrew and Norris from Coronation street rolled into one.

In fact,I can imagine Norris from Corry being a special c***stable.

I would imagine special c***stables command as much respect from real coppers as Territorial Army people get from the real forces... :D :D :D

as `a specialist` territorial army soldier, i have never in 18 years experienced any anymosity from regular army colleagues towards the TA... i am afraid that no longer is it SAS `Saturdays and Sundays`, it a professonal part of the British Army...

In 2003 i was just 1 of 45000 british service personnel sent on `Op. TELIC` and of these approximatley 1/3rd were Territorial Army or Marine Reservists, and i can assure you no special treatment was given to those out there...

me second left... digging sandcastles!

now back to your original point `Plastic Police` as you call them i assume you mean Special Constables?, well i can only speak as i find, and of those who i work with they are all a `Real Asset`, they work along side us, often double crewing, so we dont attend everything as a single crewed unit as is the norm!

They only have to do a minimum 8 hours a month, however there are several i know that hold down full-time jobs and still mange to do another 16 hours a week... and as for not getting paid, thats incorrect, they actually get a minimal shift allowance.

if your mean PCSO`s Police Community Support Officers... then the jury is still out, the few i have dealings with are professional, eager to help, however they only have limited police powers.

Fair do`s,it`s RAF friends of mine that have a less than complimentary view of TA`s..

I once went to see a house being sold by two TA people.
I swear, they were both wearing camo trousers when we got there.
Their loft was quite disturbing too.
God`s honest truth,it was done up like a field tent.
All camo drapes and a desk and everything.
I didn`t go right up the ladder,as I was scared they`d bundle me and hold me hostage.
