Try www.computerprices.co.uk or www.pcindex.co.uk....one thing though , be wary of a company called Ebuyer as i purchased a cd-rw from them (Plextor) and it was faulty...I managed to get a returns number for it via E-mail but have,nt heard anything off them since I sent it back and their phone is always engaged in office hours !!!!

The cheapest places to buy are usually the computers fairs held every week at various locations across the country, you should check your local paper see if there is any near you.

I have to say that www.dabs.co.uk are excellent in terms of getting the order to you correctly and quickly. Prices are very good, although perhaps not the very cheapest these days. Free delivery as well. I echo the view about ebuyer above, I`ve had a couple of bad experiences with them although I tend to find them the very cheapest (free delivery on orders over £100 ex vat). Also, try www.scan.co.uk (the `today only` page is competative) and www.overclockers.co.uk. Both of these sites are reliable and offer deals on packages (motherboard, cpu and ram).

Good site for finding prices is http://www.price-guide.co.uk - they have a good range of component suppliers on their database, and a reasonable (if slightly annoying) search facility.

I have ordered seven times from ebuyer.com - only one problem ever - sent me the wrong heatsink. This was sorted after a (long wait) phonecall.
They def seem to be the cheapest.

Recently needed the delivery address changed after the goods had been despatched. Sent them a FAX and email and they contacted the courier company and sorted it out within 2 hours!

Based on the above it may be worth trying to send a FAX if you have a problem. Seriously would avoid scan.co.uk - if anything goes wrong you will have probably have serious problems getting things sorted - just do a search on `SCAN` on these forums!

I upgraded my PC for £200 with stuff from Ebuyer.

I bought

Duron 800/Motherboard/Fan
Nokia ATX case
DVD drive
PCI modem
128 MB PC133

Its even cheaper now! I have since bought another 128MB which was fauly but was replaced with no problems.

Not so sure it`s worth building your own anymore.
For £599 + VAT I just ordered a Dell with:

1.5Ghz P4 chip
256Mb rambus memory
Cd rom
16 x CD writer
40 Gb HD
32Mb GeForce 2(ok this was an extra £30)
and wait for it.........
a 19`` monitor.
Beat that with a bag of bits......... plus it will all be tested properly by Dell for integration and reliability.........
You also get a copy of ME and Norton anti-virus.
