Stu UK (Elite) posted this on Sunday, 13th February 2005, 22:39

Have just been browsing Ebay and noticed a post stating that you can reset your service spanner.

Anyone know how?

I have a Zafira 18 16v 02 plate petrol

Couple of taps on the dashboard with a claw hammer should do it...

But seriously, this method works on a peugeot 306, might work on yours.

with the ignition off, hold down the tachometer reset button. turn the iginition to the second switch and leave it there for 10 seconds (on a 306 you get a countdown on the dash). after that the service light should be turned off

We had something like this problem recently.
Travelling down A1 and near stevenage, car would not go above 3000 revs (60MPH in 5th, 50MPH in 4th, etc). Took ages to get home :(

When home got out manual and it said that it was "in get home mode". Switch off ignition and restart.

What we don`t know is why it went to go slow mode in the first place >:(

All those behind us on the A1, M25 and M3 (we were in the slow lane) on 27th Dec 04, between 8-30 and 10-00 pm, sorry :D

We had 206 here that had an intensely annoying service light.
Wee orange spaner would come on for no reason at all.
Kept having to go to the dealer to have it reset.
However,I got sick of it one day and typed `206 service light` into Yahoo.
Lo and behold,up came umpteen sights telling you how ridiculously easy it is to reset. :D
God bless the net.

A common reason for this is over-revving.
If you missed a gear, for example, and hit the rev limiter it will do this as a protection thing.
You`re lucky the car`s `get home` mode resets itself using the ignition.
Some cars require a dealer reset, which is a pain.

close to the...

I had the engine light come on in my old astra estate, its the ECU getting a fault code that does it.

The hammer light is a preset light for service, based on time or mileage although I think Vauxall goes on time.

Thanks to the helpfull poster who suggested a hammer, my next posting will be does anyone know how to change a speedo unit etc.... lol

I think you need to hold down the trip counter button and turn on the ignition to start the car. Its certainly done by a process using the key and one of the buttons on the dashboard, clock or trip counter.

I`ll try and find out tomorow if i can

Stu

As the earlier poster said, youswitch the ignition off, hold down the trip reset button, switch the ignition on (so battery & oil light come on) while continuing to hold the trip button, then hey presto no more annoying service indicator.

I have a 306 and an Astra (same method for both cars)

Good Luck.
