When at college and uni I listened to his show every night without a fail, my stereo had a timer which came in v handy, especially with 120min tapes and teh auto reverse record function for getting those session tracks!

Must admit, didn`t listen to him much since I started working, but will miss him. It`s not that great, but I started to write a little section on my website about him years ago, never really updated it much though.

Shame it takes this to happen for Radio 1 (especially Spoony) to play so much great music, must be the best early evening of Radio 1 I`ev ever heard :(

Yup, so many bands owe him for having the balls to play and promote up and coming acts. Without him, many many bands would not have the riches they have now.

Well played John, RIP. :(

His dead-pan, sardonic delivery was just about the only thing that made Top Of The Pops watchable, on the occasions he presented. More recently, I`ve very much enjoyed "Home Truths" on Radio 4 - I even had an email read out on there once.

With John sadly passed away and Mark & Lard defected to Radios 2 and 6 respectively, I honestly can`t see myself listening to Radio 1 again.

I cant believe he`s gone, he was a musical institution. A truly sad day for music lovers around the world. :(

I remember listening to him him back in 1989 playing the Inspiral Carpets. It`s just something that sticks in my mind. Thanks for the memories Peely.

Far too young for a man who`s spirit burned so bright...

Like many here, he seemed like a personal friend ...many evenings spent listening to his show in the late 70`s - early `80`s where it was the only place to hear anything new and exciting...

The news hit me like a blow to the stomach.

Let`s just hope they play `The Fall` and `The Undertones` on pretty steady rotation up there....RIP. :(

A very sad loss. Couldn`t believe this was the same John Peel when I heard the news on the radio earlier.

R.I.P. John
