Page 1 of Wii U being discontinued (rumour)
Gaming and Consoles Forum
Apparently there is a rumour going around that Nintendo are stopping production of Wii U accessories, with the console itself following later in the year:

I know it was the loser of the latest generation (despite being the clear winner of the previous one), but didn't realise it was this much of a loser.
Now it's about to become retro, I start to fancy having one!

RE: Wii U being discontinued (rumour)
I think half the reason was that although it was its own entity, it came across as being just an over-sized and over-priced proprietary peripheral for a very well established and much-loved console. The Wii changed the game (pardon the P), but Nintendo had to mess with a format that everyone was already very comfortable with.

RE: Wii U being discontinued (rumour)
It's one of those console that I always intended to pick up when it was near the end of its life-cycle, as I did with the original Xbox (which only cost me £60 and the games were proportionally priced by then). I did the same with the Dreamcast. If it does go I might well end up getting one for the exclusives as I've enjoyed the few titles I've tried and I've always been a Mario fan.

I have a Wii U. It's a great console with easily some of the best games of this generation.
Nintendo's biggest problem was calling it Wii anything. Most people just assumed it was a Wii with a fancy controller.
As ever the Mario games are great (2D and 3D) but Mario Kart 8 is just fantastic, it really is.
Splatoon is great too (GOTY last year?).
Interesting if true what happens to the new Zelda - although I've thought it'll do a 'Twilight Princess' and appear on this and the NX for a while anyway (as TP did with GameCube and Wii).
Sad to see but, as they so often do, Nintendo don't 'get it' and screwed up again on so many levels. Except first party games, as ever.
A few pics of the supposed NX controller appeared last week that were widely dismissed as fake. Opinions that they may actually be real seem to be gathering pace now. It looks like there's no real buttons or control methods built into it - but it's now being said that it has many different attachments (even VR) etc. that can totally change its setup.

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..

I did the same with the original XBox and Dreamcast too. :)

NX being announced next year, so clearly wrapping up this generation of Nintendo console as a failure:

Last official Wii U game from Nintendo will be Zelda, then that's it. The countdown to cheap Wii Us has begun.
