New gameplay video, looks nice... Tho I`m not so sure my OCD can cope with the ability to layout so haphazardly.

Using SimCity to diagnose my home town`s traffic problem

http://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/MikeRose/20130219/186896/Using_SimCity_to_diagnose_my_home_towns_traffic_problem.php

After the first SimCity beta weekend had ended, I read an article by Norman Chan over at Tested.comin which he attempted to discover the best suburban city layout according to the game. It`s hugely interesting stuff, and quite frankly I hadn`t considered the idea of putting this new SimCity to real-world use.

So when the second beta weekend rolled around, I decided to have a crack at testing some theories that I have about my own hometown of Northenden, Manchester (population of roughly 15,000, as far as I can tell).

Not a smooth launch apparently, glad I didn't buy it. Servers overloaded, a patch coming out to disable features so the servers can cope... All seems really against the spirit of SimCity.

One thing I like about nearly all the games I own, is 10 years down the road I'll be able to go back and play them without worrying about the servers that I never wanted in the first place, and that added nothing to the experience for me, would still be running. :/

I don't mind the online model, I just wish we had a choice about not using it. Still, SimCity on my iPad is great fun and I can play that anytime I like, until my iPad breaks. I'll stick with that I think.

I read somewhere that Amazon stopped selling it because of the server issues, and something like 1,090 of the 1,230 reviews on there are 1 star. And a load of gaming websites that reviewed it on release (rather than carefully controlled gaming sessions) gave it really bad reviews due to the online issues.

Really hope this makes EA realise that if they want people to buy their games they need to give people what they want at a price they are willing to pay, rather than getting obsessed with piracy.

I miss the days when games came with a server you could run yourself, or a friend could bring up on a remote machine, and play with just friends.

It has been out for three days, and SimCity is broken. Seriously, unplayably broken. As a long-time fan who`s been looking forward to this week for many years, this is a huge, frustrating disappointment. [b]Update: Maxis has apologized and offered a free EA game to SimCity players.]
