Nintendo announce they will be bringing some things to other people's platforms:

So I guess they'll have free Mario and Zelda apps designed to do nothing more than encourage you to buy a Wii U or a 3DS. Somehow I suspect that's not going to work very well. :/

I think MK was the game I played to death on the GC and the Wii, still not enough to tempt me into a Wii U though.

I really enjoyed DOuble Dash on th GC, I'm pretty sure I got that cheap using a post in th ebargain buckets here :)

One of these days I'm going to start playing Mario Kart on the Wii again, I wonder if anyone still plays it online? I was obsessed with it and new loads of shortcuts and tricks, but now when I go back to it after so long... I'm really awful!

AFAIK Ninty are discontinuing online support for the DS and the Wii so if you fancy some online MK action ya gonna need a new console.....

Some of the videos released lately do look stunning - and great fun.  Nice 1080P @60fps too.
16 new tracks and 16 retro.  The retro ones have had changes made too so parts are vertical/angled etc. to use the anti-grav features.
Had it pre-ordered for a little while now.
(Yes, as jimbo says, the online network for Wii and DS is being switched off - on 20th May).

They are discontinuing all online functionality of games on both the Wii & DS on May 20th.

MK8 is going to be awesome!

New video released today in the Nintendo Direct.
It looks phenomenal.  The slow-mo detail of the Karts including suspension, driveshafts and writing on the tyres is superb.  The bodies riding the Karts rise and fall independently too. (8:50 on vid)
