Part of me is sad for them, they provided a product I've used for years. And part of me is irritated I didn't keep it up to date as I think I'm a few versions behind now. :/

I hope they can return in some form.

That's a p***er, as I regularly watch my BD movies on my PC while Annie's watching Grimm or NCIS or whatever.

The most current beta handles releases around Ant-man and Space Cop (at last check). I do have the Zip if you've got the .dll.

That's bloody annoying as I was looking forward to Spectre this weekend

That's never bothered them before, they took great delight in proclaiming that they were at the forefront for circumnavigating the DRM attached to Blu-Rays. They've been got to. Possibly with baseball bats.

The final version has built-in support for about 130000 discs, but any disc not included would need to connect to the OPD, which of course is no longer possible. Actually, that's not strictly true. Apparently their mirror servers are still running and if you can figure out what they are you can edit your hosts file to point to them (other sites have IPs). Also, any discs that do need a download cache the info so you could probably keep that and start to build a database of files to share amongst people.

I've not bothered with any of that messing around myself as I moved straight to DVDFab Passkey, which I had a free licence for from Fengtao's Autumn give away. Trouble is that Fengtao appeared to get most of their 'inspiration' from Slysoft, so one has to wonder how long the product will last now.

I posted the mirror link to the final .exe earlier Rob and I have the original file on my PC if you need it. Guess my 'lifetime' licence wasn't quite that!

Thanks Chris! On a related note:

Not that I even have a 4K device yet (or any plans to get one).

Yeah, the 'coincidental' announcement that Fengtao aren't going to crack it at the same time Slysoft ceases to exist. Not that I'm going 4K either.

"DVDFab Passkey"

Does this work in the same way as anydvd, in that it just runs in the background while you watch the movie, or is it for ripping only?

Same thing. There's also a 'Lite' version that doesn't require a licence, but that doesn't support the latest versions of AACS or BD+. Not sure up to which version it supports. From memory neither the free or paid versions handle Cinavia, unlike AnyDVD. They force you to buy another add-on for that.

Basically it looks as though Fengtao reverse-engineered Slysoft's software for the most part, then split it into various programs charged more for it. I would never have used them if it weren't for the Fox's demise and the need to take screen captures. That's literally all I use these programs for - I have no interest in ripping discs as it takes way too long and I prefer to own originals anyway. We could potentially see screen captures start to disappear from reviews in the future. Very frustrating.

Never mind, worked fine after a restart, and managed to watch Spectre with no problem - apart from the movie itself. Not the best.

VLC+Fraps? Had to grab some Kingsman clips the other day and it worked perfectly

Won't work with encrypted discs (plus VLC takes HD caps in the wrong colour-space).
