Been done already in 2002, winner of the grand prize of European fantasy film, where humans are stranded on Mars, with a very interesting twist in the plot.

see Vincent Gallo's film.... STRANDED.

I have it in my Si-fi collection. You should look out for it, if you can find it, as its a great movie.
