[VIDEO] Supergirl (TV series)

On the one hand I loved the original Supergirl movie with Helen Slater, and the idea of a series excites me, on the other I'm a bit worried it's all a bit faux-feminist Taylor Swiftized.

starts Thur 29th oct 20:00 on Sky 1, doubt I'll watch it, i think I'm out of target demographic now ;)

I bought the missus the Helen Slater film a few years ago, a couple of quid in woolworths, we watched it, it was bad :( I hadn't seen it since I was a kid.

IGN have a review of the pilot

I always liked it as a youngster. Seemed like a lot of fun, but I never realised the main crush in the film was Hart Bochner, also known as Ellis from Die Hard

It's horrifically superficial now, with very little real crime-fighting and more just fighting over a guy.

Thoughts after about 5 episodes...

Competent cast, likeable actress as Supergirl (fans of Glee will recognise her from that), Calista Flockhart has had an OBSCENE attack of the live photoshops (think Jeff Bridges in Tron Legacy) which is so over the top she has better skin and less wrinkles than the youngest members of the cast!

If you liked Louis and Clark, or Smallville, or more recently Once Upon a Time, you'd enjoy it as harmless fun.

It's watchable fluff, but makes Marvel Agent's of Shield look positively dark and serious, and it has a lot of stupid aspects.

Superman created a bumbling Clark Kent as a disguise, but Supergirl is just not very smart for a super hero, think average college girl then you have about her level, and yes she's obsessed with a boy.

She joined a media company because she wanted "to make a difference"??? I can't think of any company less likely to achieve that! And they wonder around talking about her secret in the office within ear shot of people who miraculously can't hear them, and they manage to have a secret office nobody notices them vanishing to during work hours???

I think I'll have to give Marvel's Jessica Jones a go, maybe it'll be a less stupid female super hero vehicle.

They're polar opposites. Jessica Jones is actually good.

a couple of the massive comic book nerds and work watch Supergirl, but say it's bad, but I think theyll watch it anyway out of "duty" ;)

Jessica Jones, one of them watch it all in 1 weekend, the other took a week ;) they (and some less nerdy ppl) said its v good.

It's much more adult than Supergirl, occupying as it does the same universe as Daredevil (with one of the characters from that show making an appearance). It's not just some dizzy blonde chasing after a roided out guy. I'll watch some utter dross in the name of comic book and sci-fi geekery, but even I can't defend Supergirl.
