As a confirmed comic book geek it's probably a toss up between Guardians and Winter Soldier, although Days of Future Past was almost as good (and I'm an X-Men nut). Unfortunately Spidey 2 doesn't hold up to repeat viewings so that's out of the running, which is a shame as he's my favourite comic book character.

Special mention must go to both The Raid 2 for its visceral action and The Guest for the 80s throwback vibe.

I've seen about 60 films theatrically this year and other stuff I I liked was Her, Dawn of the Apes, The Skeleton Twins, The Equalizer, Gone Girl, Nightcrawler, Grand Budapest Hotel, American Hustle, Wolf of Wall Street and 22 Jump Street as well. I also saw a double bill of Sin City and its sequel, but while the first is still great the less said about the latter the better...

BEST.....
Guardians of the Galaxy was very good, saw in cinema, even got the DVD

But for realism of alien battles the winner this year has to be Live, die, repeat, though the title gives the story away somewhat. Saw in cinema, also got it on DVD.

WORST.....
The Secret life of Walter Mitty with Ben Stiller. DVD viewing only.

I normally like his films, and this was supposed to be fantasy, but was anything but. If you like depressing views of Iceland and Greenland, then this is your film. I actually binned the DVD, rather than hand it in to charity for some unsuspecting person to suffer, it was really (really) that bad.
