The Lunchbox - smoking warnings
I went to see The Lunchbox at the cinema when it was on release, and really enjoyed its insight into the culture of Mumbai.
Bought it on DVD and watched it with a friend last night. Before the movie started, we were subjected to a very graphic advert reminding us that smoking gives you lung cancer etc etc, which we were quite shocked by.
Then every time a person appeared on screen with a cigarette in their hand, the words "smoking kills" appeared in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.
We found it really distracting and rather silly.
Is this what it has come to now? Is this the norm for future DVD releases?
RE: The Lunchbox - smoking warnings
Makes a change from "piracy is steeling, you're a criminal didn't you know?" and "before you can enjoy what you paid for, why not sit through a load of adverts for other things we want you to pay for?"
I wonder if they are just doing it for all releases from that studio, regardless of content?

That's Indian entertainment now, so risk averse that they intentionally mar shows broadcast on TV and on home video release with on screen warnings and the like, with the expectation that anyone watching the show is an imitative moron who does anything they see on the screen by instinct.
My mum watches a lot of these dramas and the like now, and I always wonder how she can put up with the onscreen warnings, or worse, mosaiced guns and cigarettes to actually enjoy her shows!

Fair enough if they have decided to do that in india, but this was a region 2 release, so it just wasn't necessary. It was a brilliant movie too, but this has spoiled it for me.
