Shouldn`t have said anything. No sign of bloody furniture, so I`ve been sitting in all day for nothing. No Man of Steel for me today. :(

Caught it at the 10.15 showing this morning and it was well worth getting up early for. Visually spectacular and very well structured (backstory told in flashbacks rather than a 30-minute intro). Hits the ground running and never stops. Russell Crowe is brilliant, and we see a lot more of him than you`d think. Amy`s good as Lois, and there`s a tiny twist on the known Superman genesis that came as a nice surprise right at the end. Also a couple of blink-and-you`ll-miss moments. The building site accident board that resets to zero and the tankers with Lexcorp on the side.

If there`s a gripe to be had, the 3D isn`t that brilliant, and the Kal/Zod punch-up is so fast paced and frenetic that at times you have no idea who`s doing what to who, and where they are on screen amidst all the collapsing buildings - of which there are many. metropolis takes a proper pounding in this, much more than I would have expected. To quote Sergeant Angel; "I just don`t think it`s possible to perpetrate that amount of mayhem and carnage and not incur a considerable amount of paperwork"

Oh yes, when Zod & his bunch are arrested and transported to a prison ship - try not to think of rocket-powered dildos

I also sniggered at the dildo thing. The Krypton opening is spectacular, I loved Crowe in this role. Shannon is great, Zimmer`s score is relentlessly stirring. Film of the summer so far.

I had a few niggles, I think the flashbacks are so brief and he gets his suit on way too early that I don`t think we get to spend enough time with Clark in the same way we did with a young Bruce in Batman Begins. I don`t think Snyder`s necessarily at fault, more that there is just too much in this film so some things just don`t get time to breathe. It really is a very intense mood piece crossed with a surprisingly focused action film narrative. It definitely allows Clark to be fleshed out in a sequel.

Also, the devastation on display here is like nothing seen before in a superhero film. General Zod doesn`t mess about and it`s quite scary how fast **** hits the fan. They`ve really created a big playground for Superman.

I dunno I thought they did the whole Smallville thing really well with Costner and Diane Lane (especially Lane). There was quite a bit of welling up behind my 3D specs!

But yeah I fecking loved it. Cavill is fantastic as Supes, and the movie is generally really well done, if a little batshit crazy! Looking forward to seeing it again.

Why the fluff do people (on other forums *cough digitalspy cough*) keep insisting on saying that it`s a "gritty" new take on Superman? Were we watching the same film? And for some reason they`ve got it in their heads that Snyder decided to use CGI to morph Cavill`s face into Reeve`s at one point in the film? I mean what the fluff fluffing fluff? Why the fluff would they decide to do that, after spending how much money trying to get away from the classic 70`s Superman?

Stupid fluffers.

We`re going to have to add fluff to the profanity detectors, which wouldn`t be good for f****_n_stuff!

Sorry I have to ask this, but really need to know how it ends:

SPOILER:
Did you get your furniture in the end, Mark?

SPOILER:
Lol yes! Turned up late, so I had to go to the early showing next day. Still lesson learned. Largely, don`t tell the missus when you book a crafty day off work for geeky reasons. :D
