And apparently it is indeed the 2004 versions that you`ll be getting on Blu-Ray according to the forum at Digital Spy. If true I think that`s a bit of a jip, because he`s obviously setting that up for a future release again with an all-new further spruced up/ruined set to get the suckers in.
I have a very bipolar relationship with SW these days. On the one hand I love the films still, but on the other I`d feel so wrong giving this guy any more money.
How is there already 13 positive reviews for the set on Amazon? Jeeez...fanboys...

I might wait for them to be reduced to half price. Which I hope they will, I really hope the fanboy obsession with Star Wars (don`t get me wrong I love the original trilogy) is dying now. I`m sure that nobody cares too much when a new Star Wars game comes out these days, so perhaps there is hope.

RE: Star Wars on Blu Ray 2011
There`s got to be a point where they make one trip too many to the well. I mean, if Trek can choke on the abysmal Enterprise and Nemesis to the extent they have to do a complete reboot, it surely can happen to George`s Galaxy Far Far Away.
Having said that, huge Star Wars whore that I am, I`ve preordered the big set from Play (same price as Amazon). What can I say? The 1977 original was one of the most important movies in my growing up. I`d love to have that movie in my collection, but I know George will never let that happen. I`d even settle for it at proper DVD resolution to upgrade from the sad letterbox version.

I`m gonna have to go back n check my Theatrical Release ones now as I`m sure they were untouched as DVD releases :-/
Certainly the original 1977 intro-roll minus the "Episode IV: A New Hope" is one of the versions I have (was the two disc Theatrical and Special Edish set) but now I`m gonna have ta dig it out and check the resolution of it

I`ve learned to appreciate the 2006 LE letterbox editions. Sure they`re not the same as a cleaned up anamorphic version, but really they`re still way better than my old treasured and beloved VHS copies, and they`re at least now preserved for me on disc whenever I want to see them as I did when I was a kid. When GL had the passion to actually get out and make a movie how it should be done.

I agree with this and actually suspect that this Blu-Ray release isn`t going to do that well in the long run. It`s one thing to get the fans to buy these, but quite another to get the set to appeal to casual buyers. I don`t think there`s gonna be enough fans around to make this a big seller, but that`s just imho.
Dunno if you guys are aware, but the new RedLetterMedia Sith review is up. Excellent again this time. Nice timing too... ;)

Non-anamorphic letterbox. Just a digital spruce-up and re-master from the Laserdisc masters.

I dunno, bloke can`t win can he? People moan like buggery because they`re not available in HD, and when they`re announced people moan that it`s just more money-grabbing. I`ll just be happy to have an official HD version with a good bitrate and lossless audio, as opposed to the low bitrate ones I`ve got now.

I might wait for them to be reduced to half price. It wouldn`t surprise me if they did a limited edition to stop price reduction happening, so you pay in full or not at all.
I bought Star wars as a 6/8 minute clip on Super 8mm sound. Brilliant sound & picture, this was around 1978.
I used to do kids partys & one boy got up & screamed his eyes out when Darth Vader came on the screen, they had to take him out, I wonder if he admits to it now? He must be around 40 years old now.
When the original trilogy came out on dvd their boxes were marked as limited edition, but they 1/2 price after a while.
in fact play.com original trilogy are 12.99
hmv Empire is 5.99
I`m a sucker, I bought them as soon as they came out, then bought box sets, and have pre-ordered the complete saga blu ray. not so much so that I def get one, I`m sure there won`t be a shortage, but so I get it at that price.
Empire Strikes back is on ITV at the moment, so i thought I`d see how good it looks in HD, looked a bit fuzzy on hoth, but some of the close up on ppl picture looked good.
So being the nerd I am, I got the DVD out, to see how that compared, first time I`ve watched it on my Blu Ray player with HD TV. Picture looked much better to me on the upscaled DVD.
So I was wondering, is that just ITV being rubbish, and actually just broadcasting upscaled SD Empire they`ve had knocking around for years? How did the old films look when Sky showed them in HD?
